So I've been through three models of the new Blade 14 so far, and I don't know if I want to try a fourth time. This is pretty sad, since the second and third replacements have both had defects out of the box.

My first blade seemed fine, although there were a lot of machining defects around the edges (Around the touchscreen, mostly). After about a week, my fan started to click and grind, and occasionally made some unidentifiable sounds audible enough to hear several feet away. Sent that one back for a replacement, and the second unit I got had two very visible defects in the screen - They appeared to be in the backlight behind the LCD since the pixels worked perfectly fine. Back into the box it went, and sent back to Microsoft after checking with Razer CS.

Then I got the third unit. Broken 'E' key out of the box, only registers a keypress about half the time. After a closer inspection it looks like one of the attachment points of the scissor is broken since the key does not depress evenly like the rest of them. I figured it was something that might be able to be fixed, so I continued to use it only to find the screen flickers black occasionally on the desktop doing desktop stuff, then more frequently while playing games. Was instructed to definitely send this one back for an exchange.

What's the point? I feel like after three bum units I'm just going to get my hopes up for a fourth and I'll be disappointed. It's really too bad, since the Blade is in a class all on its own. Has no one else had some bizarre experience like this?

Really feel bad for you bro!
Seems like you just have rotten luck, I got a good laptop with no defects and doesn't make any strange noises but I'd be pretty pissed if I where in your shoes too.Give it one more try It's worth another shot.
    Good luck!

I know you're right, it is worth it. That's why I've already gone through three of them. I guess I'll give it one more shot before I give up.

Very laptop, much speed, so compute!

My first one made cricket like noises when booting games but ran just fine, only had time to log about 20 gaming hours on it before I sent it back. Got the second and it still makes a little electronic noise that I can detect before the fans spin up but it's much less noticable. Everything runs great plus I got the replacement (a 512gb) for 100 dollars less than the original (a 256gb). Needless to say I'll be keeping the 512.

So I'm now on my third replacement (4th laptop total) and still finding defects out of the box. This one has a 3mm dark spot in the backlight and a dead pixel not far from it! I can't decide if I want to try and live with it, send it back, or ask for a fourth replacement.

The worst part is this particular unit is the best one I've received so far. Best temperatures, best machining, best finish. I don't want to send it back and play the Razer lottery again. I wonder what Razer's screen replacement policy is?

You must be on some list, I mean mine runs hot when gaming and the fans are louder than I like, but the panel and build quality are perfect. The power adapter was making some cricket like sounds but that has ceased as well.

I contacted support and got a CLEARLY copy and pasted reply that doesn't even have the proper information for this model. It mentioned the screen having 2 million pixels (Hmm, QHD+ has 5.76 million last time I counted). And they basically said it's normal for an LCD to have a certain number of defects.

Well, I ended up doing a thorough panel inspection and found two dead pixels, 5 dark spots, and one spot that looks like a chip in the glass but it's on the inside. Seriously not acceptable. I don't even know.

I've had the same luck. Started with a bad webcam, the internal usb had apparently failed. Followed that with bad pixels and a clicking power adapter. For my third one I got bad pixels again and got quoted the same crap about bad pixels being normal. They did give me an RMA and they received my 3rd unit Thursday. They did tell me that "I can have this come back in for a hand tested replacement from our office supply of units. These are units that we have opened and inspected to ensure they are in phenomenal condition." Right before being told refunds are no longer possible because after 2 replacements I'm outside the 14 day return window. So we'll see what happens with the new one.

For my issue, support has agreed that they will replace the LCD. The only problem is their repair centers don't have parts yet so I've agreed to wait until next month when they have the parts to repair it. That's interesting their offering to send a "hand tested replacement". I hope it turns out well.

From mine and my friend's experience with peripherals, it always seemed Razer quality has been hit-or-miss, so I've held off on getting a notebook although I really like the specs of the new 14". Then, as I mentioned on another thread, I saw this pair of posts on Tom's Hardware that makes me very leery of buying any new product from Razer until the bugs are worked out: Razer quality sucks - fact or myth? [Solved] - Peripherals - Computer Peripherals

Basically, if you buy a new product from Razer, you are Razer QC.
