RAZER UPDATES LAPTOPS WITH REDESIGNED CHASSIS, PLEDGES MORE QUALITY CONTROL, RESPONSIVE SUPPORT
IRVINE, Calif. – Razer™, the leading global lifestyle brand for gamers, today announced some new moves regarding Razer's Blade 14 gaming laptop. In the wake of continued criticism of Razer's quality control, design, and lack of support over the past few years, the company has announced is both improving the design of its hot-headed and big-bezeled laptops, as well as taking a critical look at the design process and quality control of their laptops.
"We had to take a really long, hard look in the mirror at both our engineering and quality control after we weren't able to suppress the disappointment from our fans over 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017 Razer Blades," said CEO Ming-Liang Tan during a conference call. Tan was even willing to joke about taking so long to do anything about it: "What kind of smug, egotistical would I be if I also didn't learn lessons from the problems with our Razer Blade Stealth, Razer Blade Pro, and even keyboards and mouses?"
Razer insists that it's heard feedback from its fans about its fans (pun intended), citing fan-noise issues plaguing the 2016 Razer Blade 14 with GTX 1060. Instead of ignoring the problem and hoping it will go away, Tan says that Razer will do what it can to release an EC firmware update that will make the 2016 Blade's fans as quiet as the 2017 model's.
According to Tan, Razer is also even going so far as to offer free replacements for owners of Razer products that overheated and damaged themselves. This "amnesty program", as Razer calls it, includes owners of the Razer Blade Pro whose RAID-configured dual Samsung 950 SSD's are overheating and causing crashes, as well as those who suffered from burned-out GPUs in the 2013, 2014, and 2015 Razer Blades.
"If it helps our company improve its hurt reputation, then I'm even willing to retroactively pay for the hospital bills of consumers who accidentally touched the chassis of their Razer Blades while gaming," said Tan, doubling-down on his pledge to turn things around.
Lastly, the Irvine-based company noted that it would be updating its new series of laptops with larger screens. No longer content with putting a 12-inch display in a 13-inch laptop, or a 14-inch display in a 15-inch laptop, Razer will soon be offering models without comically large bezels. The MSRP for the newly redesigned Razer Blade and Razer Blade Stealth will be US$3999 and US$1999, respectively.
