Well, the Razer core bottlenecks high end cards like the 1070/1080 since it is routed through the motherboard PCH so using that solution in your case is pretty pointless as that would be 800$ for a ~30% performance gain. Also, the laptop itself is not very reliable and I'd like to just inform you that most Blades don't live past 2 years.

There isn't a need to wait, though. The Gigabyte Aero 15 is currently the best in the thin'n'light class

Build quality and reliablity are two different topics.

They have fantastic build quality. Solid contruction, and top notch materials choices.

Some people complain about reliability. Some people complain about thermal throttling, or loud fan noise, or general component failure over time.

But this isn't any better or worse than any other similar laptop (13" or 14" ultra-portable gaming laptop). Go into any sub-forum for any laptop on this site, and you'll find exactly the same complaints: some people have overheating problems, and some people have general component failure stories.

Which is why I said Citation Needed (the polite way of calling B.S. on a claim) when someone said that most Razer Blades fail after 2 years. There is no data to support that at all. And no, you can't point to posts / threads on this forum as evidence. Those are from people that self-select to join this forum, creating self-selecting posts about self-selected parts of their product ownership experience. Those are anecdotal stories, not evidence.

@Mobius 1 has a beatdown log on the RB14 -"good quality" is not something that comes to mind when reading. Feel free to check it out. Not to mention that we've had stuff like this:

In short: the 2013, 2014 and some 2015 models had a glaring design flaw that would cause failure within a year or so due to the components being overload. In addition, the vBIOS chip was placed under the heatsink causing it to die due to extreme heat.

ON TOP of all that - the 1060 inside is actually TDP-gimped (limited) making it about 10% slower than other 1060 laptops. EVEN more so - the Power Brick, due to being small, runs extremely hot shortening it's lifespan considerably.

Lastly, their quality control and customer support is, without a doubt, the worst in the industry as evident by @Galm 's pinned lists with many users having absurd amounts of problems with their support.

Overall - at 2000$, these machines are a joke. Ask @D2 Ultima , @Mobius 1 and @iunlock if you want more in-depth thoughts from professionals

No, good build quality means good cooling and accessibility design.

Razer has good Aesthetic quality. And no, their material choice is not top notch. Apple's is. Razer's is just alimunium unibody, and that's it. There's nothing else that's of any sort of high quality in there, unlike Apple who uses top notch SSDs and very good motherboards and whatnot.

A machine with good build quality has fine reliability. It's not separate.

that mosfet placement "flaw" should be a sabotage

on the 2016 and 2017 models there is still 1 mosfet uncooled behind the keyboard

Unless he's willing to beat down every thin and light gaming notebook with a 1060 or better it's an incomplete argument.

It doesn't negate the fact that the RB14 is a poorly-engineered machine.
