    Hello

Yes i know , one is a DTR with desktop performance , the other is a more of a mobile powerhouse, the RTX 2080 maxq in the razer blade doesn't come close in performance to the area 51M desktop 2080,
however , price wise the difference is not too big , one sacrifices performance for mobility the other is exactly the other way around.
I don't plan on moving too much with either laptops, mainly around the house from one table to another , maybe once in a very long while going to a coffee shop. I wont game in a coffee shop, will mainly do basic work (surfing web/office) outside the house.

QA (quality assessment ) wise for 2-3 years , is razer and Dell alienware are parallel to one another? (heard many bad things when it comes to malfunctions in razer blade laptops).

Does the slim form factor of a razer blade and a very hot combination of a RTX 2080 maxq design can make it be less future proof / having thermal issues in the future with battery bloating etc ? unlike the alienware 51m that has a bigger chassis for heat dispense ?

really debating which machine to get...
i Do have a 4k TV i might hook up either machines to game on 4k just for the fun of good visuals.
if I don't carry laptops too much outside the house, which should i go for ? based on the razer community perspective here.

    thanks!

With 51m don’t think for bringing it to coffee shop, for home usage it’s fine. It’s also mentioned by Aleinware TV in Japan, unless you’re okay bringing around 4Kg Unit around. But if you’re planning playing 4K 51m 2080 is way to go, Blade 2080maxq with some tweak would probably around 51m 2070 which isn’t great for triple A 4K.
But again if you’re considering 51m wait until Dell confirms about mobo dead issue, it’s probably not 20 units from a lot that they sold but it’s still not safe buying product with such potential issue that found not in 2 months after release imo.
I’ve Blade Laptops since Blade 14 2015, their cooling is getting better compared to old 14, new vapor chamber and bigger cassis on Pro may give some performance boost compared to 15 2080maxq. I don’t have hardware issues on old Blade 14 and current 15 in its 11 months, and my old 2015 was fine 2 years gaming usage on me and now with less gaming usage but more on video editing on new owner, only battery is wearing to around 2 hours from 4 hours. CS (Germany) was also helpful and great providing support and free usb recovery even after out of warranty according him (new owner). Speaking of CS they is on second place above Dell on laptopmag survey.

These are some interesting new fact ur bringing here that i didnt know of...
that was my greatest thing to know , how long do razer blade thin hot machines last for after 1 year... as to how reliable are they ?

like if the battery isnt suffering from the heat caused inside by the GPU and CPU ? after all batteries and heat don't go well together for long/short runs.

im starting to think on maybe canceling my Alienware area 51m from Hidevolution.com and wait for the razer blade pro 2019 to come out.
i saw 3 fans on its buttom, unlike the razer blade 15 that has only 2 or previous razerblade pro which also had just 2 fans..

RTX maxq performance can increase with better thermals if not bound by the 90w , am i correct ?

I had max only 2 years Blade before I sold it, but I’ve Razer Edge (640m Le) but it’s different a bit thicker System and it’s still working fine till now, 5 years, but again I use it effectively maybe 2 or 3 years since I got Blade 14 970m with better performance, it’s not Apple to Apple comparison though. But the same thing is that i mostly keep the gaming temperature always on 80ish, dusting every year.
Performance depends how they set it on bios or ec. And maxq is bound to max 90 watt unless they take challenge to increase the limitation like Area 51m through bios update. Better cooling can boost cpu performance as well though but again it also depends Razer because they set cpu power limit on Blade 15 for better thermal. It’ll be better to see the review first before predicting things imo.
With 4 fans, it seems have a great cooling to cool ssd, battery areas and other parts near, hopefully they do it for more performance gain.

So i ended up getting the alienware 51m, got it 3 days ago. and yesterday it burned from the inside, guessing its the known GPU issue (there was actual fire and smoke coming out of it).

I spoke with HIDevolution and was given a choice to return it for a new unit/refund or razer blade 15.

But how inlucky was i with this choice ? And who promises me that it wont happen again if i take a new machine..?

Damn sorry to hear that. There’s a risk with new hardware like Area 51m, but if you need performance and it stay mostly at home I would go with 51m honestly but not this one, maybe second revision one, apparently there’s some motherboard changes. I feel sorry for 1st gen adopters since they may have that mobo burn issue possibility, and shame on Dell that doesn’t make it clear what was the issue and just made changes quietly and it found by user. That’s why for now I would still stay with my opinion with Blade Pro 19, it’s safer because it use maxq on better cooling room and didn’t push full rtx for performance that may invite heat and power delivery issues on such thin cassis like on last gen.

What he says is correct, it's disappointing dell doesn't make those things clear and that would really rub me the wrong way, however I just always am against maxq and thin laptops because you will most likely always have temperature issues with the CPU and the mobile rtx gpus are way weaker compared to their desktop versions, so imagine the gap with the maxq versions, I would go for another area 51m since the warranty might cover for issues like that for years to come, but then again if you feel safer with the razer then it's better to have peace of mind over all other things, it's just my opinion and I wouldn't call myself a genius when it comes to laptops, maybe the next aw51m you get as a refund is solid and won't have issues.

Alternatively, you could consider a 17 R5 with a i9 8950hk and a gtx 1080, after doing a repaste on the cpu and gpu you won't have any temperature issues and it will perform better than the razer blade 15, not to mention the bigger screen

I had the same two laptops in mind and in the end chose the new blade 15 with the 240hz display and 2080mq.

No regrets....its amazing to have so much power in that sleek small package.

I have read along the way the area51m thread (over a thousand pages...) and there are too many issues feedback of the system breaking down and dell being less than transparent over it, relying on their warrant to replace...

Did you end up fixing this?
If not, there's an ICC colour calibration file on the RB15 240hz notebookcheck review.

Once you apply that everything should be hunky-dory.
