I'm sure this has been an issue with other users as I've searched the net , and I've tried uninstall and reinstalling synapse. The problem is the icon bottons don't work when defined in synapse, they are all blank and not lit. I don't even get the trackpad visual finger trail when using it to move the mouse pointer as I did before when I first got the laptop. After reinstalling. Fresh version of windows, I downloaded synapse 2 and it updated all of my drivers but the buttons don't work. I'm running windows 8.1 pro
    Any suggestions?

Try These steps that worked for me.

    1. Goto Uninstall Programs. (Add/Remove Programs) My Computer > Computer (at top) > Uninstall or change a program
    2. Remove Synapse Software.
    3. Remove Synaptics Touchpad Driver

This is going to make your mouse stop functioning. Thats Ok.

    4. Alt-Ctrl-Del to bring up Lock menu, use tab key to get to the bottom-right power icon and use space and arrows to get to restart. Alternatively if you are having trouble with this, the command "Restart-Computer" can be used from an elevated powershell prompt.
    s
When you restart the default mouse driver should be loaded.

    5. Reinstall Synapse software which automatically installs the CORRECT Synapse driver for the Blade R2

You probably omitted step 3 before. The Driver Windows 8 installs by default seems to stop synapse from installing the correct synaptics driver.

EDIT: You could use an external usb mouse for step 4 as well

Ironically enough, i'm having the exact same problem with a fresh install of Windows 8.1 Pro on a 2011 Razer Blade. I tried the steps above and almost every combination possible to try and get those switchblade keys to light up with no avail.

I'm starting to think that it's the latest version of Razer Synaspe software.

This is the only forum i've found that mentions the exact problem and it's very new.

Edit: I know that the hardware is working because i can still boot off my old Win8 partition and they work fine.

I've found that when I attempt to perform a clean install and I allow the default Synaspe package to to install it doesn't work. (Not sure if this always happens after a clean install. I've found it to automatically download when using either of my razer mice) To get mine to work, I'd select "Never Install" then download the package from the support website. I've always assumed they were the same but that's the only way I've been able to get it to work properly.

I've tried this method with windows 8, 8.1 and 10.

8 and 8.1 - successful at boot though it takes a few seconds to initialize
10 - an "Rz..." (can't remember which) file would fail at boot. I found that setting compatibility for windows 8 would allow it to load properly and the trackpad along with the other keys would properly initialize.
