    Hello all

I received my new razer blade 2016 14 inch 512gb SSD model yesterday. Was very excited... Started to download games etc and suddenly I noticed 4 things, and i need ur help figuring if i should RMA it or not...

    1) doesn't matter if the laptop is idle or running a game or working on battery or plugged into the wall, I hear an electrical/buzzing sound from the inside, really low.. But frightning... Someone told me it might be GPU coil whine..

    *EDIT*
Here is a link to sound cloud for how the sound sounds like :

    https://soundcloud.com/ran-sorkin-33962662/razer-2

    2) The power adapter gets VERY hot during game play.. So hot that i cant even hold it in my hands for 5 seconds...

    3) The power adapter making a buzzing noise as well, but was told by razer tech support that it is normal and i should just get a surge protector...

    4) The razer blade is unbalanced on his bottom, meaning it wiggles when I lay my hands on it to type...

Are all these things worth sending it back to get a replacement or im just being spoiled?

I really dont wanna send it back because of the hassle, so im trying to figure out if everything i stated is normal or not.

Will appreciate any help in the matter.

    Thanks

Im not entirely sure about inside the laptop, that could be coil whine, but the power supply getting extremely hot is normal, as is them making noise, although idk if its normally a buzzing noise.

    Not sure about #4.

Eh... Too hot to pick up could indicate a problem. It's not really a sensitive device, but your sheets should not be lighting on fire. If you are leaving it on sheets or fabric they can get extremely hot though.

Who told you about " coil whine " ? I can assure you, it's not coilwhine coming from a 960M / 970M.. it's, just not happening. How quite is the room you are in? The fan at it's lowest setting , can you hear that blowing air, at all ? does the whine humm above that sound ? The sound within the power adapter is normal, remember, a power adapter is typically just made up of tons of copper, and tons of capacitors. It's going to make some noise. Does the sound get louder if it's under load , meaning, it's actually sending out power ? I'm not familiar with the blade, as I don't have one handy, but what's the wattage on it? Additionally, when the laptop is playing a high profile game, does the whine get louder? In fact, does the sound intensity fluctuate at all ?

My Blade making a buzzing sound was the cooling fan screw was loose. Tightened it and buzzing was gone. It only buzzed while flat, if I tilted it the buzzing disappeared.

The fact that it isn't laying flat is a good reason to RMA it, since it's also buzzing that's a double reason.

It wouldn't be true "coil whine" as it doesn't really have much to do that with, but they can make noise. Coil whine is used fairly broadly sometimes and often describes noises coming from the gpu mobo or psu.

That was the mantra I was shooting for. These widely used phrases that make no sense, but people use them because they aren't quite sure what it is , lead people like this to think it's something it's not. I would have a much easier time believing it's just the actual capacitors than I would Coil Whine. Sometimes you just get loose caps, it's not unheard of.

thanks all for the replies, I uploaded a recording of the sound to soundcloud, here is the link :

The noise stays the same no matter if its under load or idle... never increases or lowers... always same level of sound.. you are hearing the fans in the background but pay no attention to it , i recorded it after watching a video on youtube or something heavier... the sound stays no matter what im doing...

about the power adapter, yes, The buzzing sound on the power adapter increases when playing games or doing heavy stuff with the laptop...

Almost sounds like a hard drive haha. Yeah it probably is something falling under the term "coil whine" though not literally that. That is not normal, so maybe you should rma it.

    Are both fans spinning?

If one of the fans is stuck or defective, it would explain both the whining sound and the extremely hot exterior case temperatures. Because the body of the Razer blade is aluminum, a defective fan would just cause the heat to be carried by the aluminum chassis, rather than be carried by air and expelled with the fans.

Is overall performance being affected at all ? I can understanding thinking their is something wrong, and not wanting it to go away, and take so long. However, if nothing is performing badly, then you should keep it, until you get back, then send it in. Calling them telling them on the front line support is useless. Good luck, and keep us posted.

Ok , so from listening to youtube videos, it seems like the noise is comming from the SSD.... yap, SSD's tend to make noises even though there are no moving parts... sigh...
