Yup. 4th gen processor. Razer hasn't updated their Razer Blade for about a year now. If it helps, it's still a fantastic performing laptop. In this laptop, you're really after the GeForce 970M, that they crammed into a 14" laptop chassis.

Other comparable 14" laptops with a 970M are the Aorus X3 Plus v5, or the Gigabyte P34v5. Both of those have Skylake CPUs, with all of the extras that typically come with Skylake laptops (DDR4, M.2 NVMe, Thunderbolt 3 w/USB Type-C). But the Razer Blade is the only one with aluminum construction. The Aorus and Gigabyte both look like generic plastic rectangles designed by nerdy Taiwanese electrical engineers.

If you're in the market for a 14" laptop with a GeForce 970M, then the Razer Blade 14 is still a very worthy contender; especially if you place a high value on aesthetics and form factor, more than just purely bang-for-your-buck performance and specs.

MSI have a 14" variant which is not plasticcy and has the GTX970m and skylake. I think the Aorus is mostly aluminium too, except the bottom. The razors only styling which separates it from any other "generic rectangles" is the logo ! Apart from the P34, all the others have decent logos and a bit of shaping. Of all of them, ignoring logos, the Blade is the most rectangular box like.

So at 30-50% more expensive, that fancy free squiggle is a VERY expensive logo. Id pay the price if only Razer cared enough to stay up to date.

I've handled all those laptops in person. None of them match the build quality of the Blade 14" in look or feel.

And they're quite cheap if you check, I don't know, the buying/selling forum ;)

    I dont want a used product ;)
I guess looks are subjective. I still maintain that at £1000 more than the MSI unit, thats a lot of extra dough for an out of date CPU. I know in gaming terms it makes little difference, but there is more to the equation than just playing games for most people.

I think their strategy is produce the fewest iterations possible so they retain their perceived value longer. For me, I just wanted TB3.

Yup. Selling a boutique product like the Razer Blade makes up for low sales volume through high per-unit margins.

It also helps that the Razer Blade has a very unique appearance. If someone sees a black aluminum MacBook Pro with green accents, they know it's a Razer blade.

BTW, there are cheaper ways to get a Razer blade than to pay the $2000 - $2400 for a new unit. They sell refurbished units for about 25% off. And if you're willing to buy last year's model, that goes for about $800-$1000

Ah. For the UK, I can't help you.

I went to the UK Razer Store site, and don't see a link for refurbished units. If you want to know what it looks like, try going to the US Razer Store site, and go on the bottom-right of the web page for a link to refurbished units.

If you're in the UK, I think your best shot at paying less than full retail price would be to get a used laptop off of eBay, or some similar site.

Yeah I'm not really into buying from 3rd parties. Too risky
