Razer Blade Advanced (RTX 2070, 8750H) Stuck at 2.9GHz?

Hello everyone!

I have noticed that my Blade, when resuming from sleep, will absolutely not boost over 2.9GHz~3.0GHz in any task, gaming or otherwise. Restarting the device fixes the issue.

Does anyone else experience this? If so, have you found a solution? I have already tried a fresh Windows installation.

Also, I feel like no matter what I do, this thing just runs SO HOT. I have already repasted with Kryonaut, undervolted -0.170mV on the core and -0.140mV on the cache, have it raised on an X-stand (propped up, basically) and run at ~4600RPM for fans, and still have absurdly high temperatures in titles like Division 2.

Whatvare absurdly high temperatures? And what are your ambient temps?

 

I am averaging 90-93C on all cores with said undervolt, fan speed, and raised laptop while playing Division 2. I restricted the clock speeds to 3.5GHz and average 86-89C with all other variables the same.

GPU is in the low-80s after 5-10 minutes.

Ambient is ~70F, or around 21C.

 

And your ambient temps? I am around 80c with the 2070RTX and a 110mv undervolt in The Division 2 in a 22c room. My clockspeeds are limited to 3.6ghz.

HMm your temps are quite hot then for the situation. WHich GPU by the way? But cant imagine that the 2080MQ would run 10c hotter than the 2070MQ version that I have. When I run in GPU boost/aming mode My temps can reach 85c though with fanspeeds around 5000rpm.

 

I am running the 2070MQ model, like you!

 

The laptop will heat up faster and 5-10 degrees more when the battery is being charged.

For example, if you drain the battery to 10-20 % and then plug it in, it will feel extremely warm on the palm rest.

This heat seems to radiate throughout the whole shell of the laptop so what I do is I move from auto fan profile to manual fan profile.

I adjust the fans to 4700 rpm so it almost hovers in the air while i raise the rear of the laptop at an angle.

The temperatures will drop but the biggest drop happens when you battery is close to being full and no longer heats up as much.


Those who play with such high temps do not know how nice the laptop sounds in Jet Engine mode



Also, when gaming on a laptop slim like this there is a rule of thumb :

1. Ultra maxed out super eye candy mode is for screenshots only.
2. High with eye candy and performance tweaks are for gaming.


I no longer game on Ultra even though my laptop can easily run most of my games maxed out at ridiculous FPS. The difference in graphics quality compared to the increase in temperatures is not worth it for this product.

 

I run my fans at 4700RPM as well, as I mentioned in one of the replies to rinneh!

 

If the temps are around 80c when running all out it should be perfectly fine. I know I do! Thermal wise with just turning the fans to 5000rpm when gaming I'm quite happy. The default fancurve is conservative, barely makes any noise but the temps do creep up to 87c on default.

Hmm, with turning the fans on yourself and an undervolt......I would consider that a tad high. 90c is something I only see when I dont undervolt, have the laptop just on a plain desk, with the default fan profile on and not limiting clockspeeds to 3.6ghz but letting it where it wants to go until it hits the power limit.

 

Yeah my CPU runs in the 90s even with all of my adjustments and so forth.

 

Do you have a bit of air in the room for the cooling to do it’s job ? I had to open a window a few times to cooldown my laptop .

Upload your sensor like using HWinfo64 like this, while running the game like this

If difference between cores huge like 10degrees on gaming means heat sink doesn’t cool properly like uneven or gap, try repasting again and maybe add some pad. That’s notebookcheck stock paste running max stress test which’s equal with gaming imo.

Probably bios setting issue, update would be needed, I remember on 2018 model there was also similar issues power consumption after waking up and solved with bios update.
