Hey Does any already upgrade their SSD on their blade.
So i ordered the 256gb and its on the way to me and i really need larger space for my files and stuffs.I want to replace my stock SSD when my blade arrive. im thinking M550 Crucial is it ok?
    I need about 512gb or 1Tb
or any other SSD that fits with blade. i need the best Speed on this machine.
PS: I have no knowledge about SSD's and sorry for my bad English.

I don't own a razer blade but I do own an edge and I replaced the 128gb SSD with the samsung 1tb msata, I think it's an m2 as well but I'm not clear on what the real difference is. It works fine on the edge pro though

Woah on that's a long chip I didn't realize the m2 was that long. I definitely can't fit that on the edge pro lol… no space in length.

As for the blade I'm not sure at this point since I didn't see the area where it goes.

That's definitely a different looking connector than the msata connector for the Edge. They don't match. If your SSD is long like that amazon one and the connectors look like that one then it should work.

I swapped in an M550, went fine, performance seems fine. To get the black video cable just gently pull the tab. To get the ribbon there is a little place for your fingernail in the black part, pull up and remove the ribbon. Swapping the HDD is quick, unscrew it, lift up a bit and pull out. Do everything in reverse and voila.

I used Clonezilla to clone the drive and then just extended it within Windows. Whole process took less than an hour and now I have a nice 512GB and an extra 256GB to use elsewhere. Costs me basically the same as buying the 512GB straight-up.

Thanks very much for confirming this. In these early days of M.2 it's people like yourselves that help fill the gaps of knowledge in terms of what works and what doesn't.

That's because it is a PCIe M.2 SSD, the Razer Blade only takes SATA M.2 SSD. Right now the only options are the Crucial M500 and M550 ones. There is also a Toshiba one with great performance but that's only for OEMs.

Stock was a pretty nice Samsung. I didn't really notice any difference. If you benchmark it the Samsung is a bit faster on 4K reads, everything else the M550 is equal or better. Write speeds on the M550 are about double. In real world terms they are within fractions of a second in speed.

I just cloned my drive using Clonezilla and a Usb to Sata adapter. This let me bring across the recovery partition and everything else so I didn't need to use the key. The Razer Windows installation is just so nice I really wanted to retain the stock image and recovery stuff.

"Nice", an indirect confirmation that the NRB doesn't take pcie drives.

By the way, there are significant differences in speed between the stock 256gb and the stock 512gb. Will post comparative crystaldiskmarks as soon as I can. 512gb is much faster.

So, HIDEvolution finally got back to me:

"We received more Razer Blades this week. We removed the motherboard and there is no 2nd SSD slot as suspected. The PCIe SSD (Samsung XP904) did fit physically but was not detected by the system."

So, there is definitely no second slot. As for PCIe, I'd say we can close the file on that one. I know, I know, Samsung XP904 is not bootable. But I don't really know where to go from there.

I'm sure by the time 512 isn't enough 1TB+ m.2 sata will be easily bought.

I used this Amazon.com: ZTC Thunder Board M.2 (NGFF) SSD to SATA III Board Adapter. Multi Size Fit with High Speed 6.0GB/s. Model ZTC-AD001: Computers & Accessories and then a Sata to Usb adapter which are pretty standard. Then just boot into Clonezilla or another cloning application before swapping any parts, clone to the new SSD via USB, swap, and go to windows disk management to expand the drive. You can then use the M.2 adapter to make use of your smaller drive in another desktop or a USB enclosure or whatever.
