    Hello everyone,

I am in a dilemma as of which laptop to buy. According to razer the new razer blade has amazing resolution but it is doubling pixels it is actually still at 900p kind of what happenes with the macbook pro. I also read that the panel is a bit like a tn panel from people who saw it in real life. Not to mention some people saying the 870m is good on paper but not better than the 860m? I am a bit confused which is the way to go. I like the razer 17 and the 14 but, it makes more sense to game on a bigger display but, there is a big difference in power. Any suggestions ? Thanks

The 14 is not a 900p screen, you are confused there.

The issue is that gaming at it's full resolution is ambitious to say the least, unless you are playing something old or are okay with low settings.

Hence many are planning on gaming at 900p, which will scale nicely as the display is a multiple of 900p ( like 4k and 1080p)

870 is faster than 860, not sure where the confusion lies there.

I say the the 17in because it has a slightly faster processor 2.4 vs 14in 2.2 nad more ram 16 vs 14in 8 also becuase the 860m is maxwellbit doesnt heat up as easily so it have room for overclocking where as the 14in is said to get very hot plus 14in is to small also 17in has switchblade that with the new windows 8 app charm is said to make windows extremly enjoyable.
I personaly is getting it becuase i cant stand small screens plus for a 17in its still very protable

Yeah that's what I heard something about maxwell and kepler. Another thing I wanted to ask does the 17 have 1 or two hdd bays? Also wouldn't it be better to game on full resolution on a native 1080p rather than at 900p on a screen that up scales? It just wouldnt seem so sharp imo.

The 17in should have and open slot i believe and a spot for you to put in a 2.5 in hdd but if im wrong someone please correct me but this is my understanding and this will obviously void the warrenty so might wanna wait till its up cuz if u open it it voids and to your second quetion yeas and no since it is just doubleing the pixels it should come out looking fine at 900p but running at native on 1080p will look better and most likely down scaling to 900p will actually look worse than a native 900p

unless you're ready for a good long wait, i'd go 17. The 14 has had it's release pushed back three weeks already, and thats for people who ordered mid march.

I may be the only one here who thinks this but the switchblade UI isn't going to be enough a draw to compensate for a lower resolution and 860 graphics card compared to 870. it's also too glitchy to be a bonus to the laptop.

From all that i have researched the 2014 version of the 17in has had thr majority of the glitches fixed and the minamal ones it still has are not enough to make it a con and it also has the draw of a bigger screen 16gb of ram vs 8gb faster processor 2.4 to 3.4 vs 2.2 to 3.2 and the screen resolution isnt really a con its a good 1080 which for now is perfect for what gaming laptops can handle

You haven't used one. The 860m at 1080 is probably going to perform a bit better than the 14" @ native res to native res, with the added benefit of not being 6c from thermal shutdown for hours at a time. It's ultimately going to get listed as a mediocre machine just because it's not as gimicky blingy as the 14", and that's a real shame. As to SBUI, if you actually start messing with it, it is *FAR* from just "gimicky". I can't defend it 100%, as I still have the issue with custom macros not displaying icons, but placement ALONE makes it 10x more functional than typical notebook crack-pads [so named for the overwhelming desire to rip them off almost every notebook ever made, sans Appple products]

Yes, YouTube on the trackpad is gimicky. Windows 8 shortcuts and Spotify controls? PRICELESS.

It comes down to individual taste in the end. I gave up a 14" preorder for the 17", and my ONLY regret is the lack of the edge to edge glass. 1080p is a comfortable resolution on a comfortable notebook with a comfortably powerful GPU that holds comfortable temps for comfortably long periods of time.

I think the real issue is, Razer really didn't DO much with the 17", which gave it a feeling of neglect next to all the R&D on the new 14". It's a shame, because the 2014 Blade pro is probably going to gown as one of the most underrated pieces of solid gaming hardware for the year. It's capable, it's powerful, and best of all, it's AVAILABLE.

But how does the 17s screen compare to the new 14 in terms of color and viewing angles did they keep the same screen on the pro from last year?

I don't switchblade is gimcky. I think it's glitchy. I definitely want it to work. It's a great idea that hopefully gets most of its kinks out. I got a chance to use my buddy's blade pro and loved using it when it worked. He had the first generation blade pro and his icons too kept turning off on him whenever he started up his laptop. Do you like the screen on the blade pro? Online there are mixed reviews about it.

It's the exact same panel as last year's. It's not edge to edge glass like the 14", and it's not 3800 x 1800, but it's crisp, bright, and the viewing angles are phenominal. I was at a 50 degree-ish angle the other night across the room on the couch watching netflix, and it was as crisp as if I'd been sitting right in front of it.

Your best bet at this point is to stay tuned to the Razer forums through the next 4 days as the 14" *JUST* started shipping. Owner reviews are just a few days away, so that will give you a better comparison between the two from which to form a more educated opinion.

The 7" is available and not going anywhere, and if you ordered a 14" TODAY, it'd ship AFTER 5/29, so if you're leaning in that direction, you've got plenty of time to weigh the reviews and make a decision :)
