I just recently received my razer blade 14 3rd gen laptop and to my dismay the advertised battery life of 6 hours is way off under my real world usage surfing the web backlight set to the lowest and keyboard backlight off I am getting just barely 4 hours of usage web surfing

I was wondering what kinds of testing scenarios did review sites use to claim a 6 hour battery life surfing the web?

6 hours seems unrealistic given that a user will install games that would take a toll on the battery I.e. steam, origin and may other programs like antivirus and office suites that would eat up battery life

What do other 14 or 17 blade owners get with regards to their battery life?

it actually seems people are getting those 6h, however to expect to install things, which is not even common plugged in after a while, coupled by heavy downloads and whatever you are doing outside whats considered normal....

In my test I got 5 1/2 hours using the battery saver power profile. All I did was read document, surf the web, send e-mails, and some video playback on youtube.com .

I can't even get that I don't know what I'm doing wrong the programs AND games I have installed are ESET anti virus, BF3 (origin), Skyrim (steam), GW2, SC2, and Nero12

Been using power saver settings with svreen backlight set to 0 or off and keyboard backlight off as well browsing through the net yields me 4 hours at 10% battery left

Just check that the GPU is actually switching to Intel during normal usage. The nvidia control panel has a setting to put an icon in the system tray to indicate this. Some people have mentioned that Steam was keeping the nVidia GPU ON even when no games were actually running. You might also need to force the browser to use the integrated GPU.

Thank you for the advice it seems that NVidia's default gpu setting does have steam.exe set to use the gpu maybe that is the culprit I've just disabled it, set it to use integrated gpu instead and will do my laptop endurance testing tonight see how far I can last using 0 display backlight and +1 keyboard backlight while surfing the net and watching videos on the web.

Nice. Just keep an eye on the GPU status to make sure it does switch when you actually launch a game via Steam. If it doesn't, you'll need to find the game exe wherever it is installed (program files(86), usually) and set that to use the discrete GPU.

I did my endurance test last night at 1: 26 a.m. was at 99% battery after turning off steam not to use my NVidia gpu and set my screen backlight to 0 and my keyboard backlight to 1 I did some heavy surfing on the web mostly bouncing around multiple webpages frequently and I was shocked and astonished at how much my battery lasted it was already past 4:30 a.m. and my battery was still at 52% I couldn't believe that at over 3 hours I was still at half battery, the NVidia gpu really sucks the life out of my laptop even though its near idle when steam is just using it!

    Thanks again anytimer!

In what I consider normal use I get around 6.5 hours maybe a little more of battery life. That is with no attached peripherals, LCD intensity at around 30%, back light keys at low. This is doing mostly web surfing, reading articles, maybe a few flash/html5 based videos, and writing a short article/document or two. Keep in mind if you are using an external mouse, or downloading software, or streaming video especially those flash based, running an antivirus scan. All of these things consume additional power outside of what is considered normal.
