Just out of curiosity, has anyone tried to fit an oled panel like those of an Lenovo X1 Yoga into any lcd type notebook?
I had the opportunity to test out an Alienware R13 with an oled panel. It is absolutely stunning. No smear, brilliant colors and black levels.

This got me thinking if one could fit such a panel into a RB14. I found the Partnumber of the Lenovo oled panel at ipc-computers. (Lenovo 01AW977 - https://www.ipc-computer.de/notebook-ersatzteile/notebook-ersatzteile/-01aw977-1 )

I dont know if oled is much different to lcd in terms of connection and power, but I would guess not. They both have to use eDP and some sort of PWM or linear backlight control. I know that oled technically has no backlight, because it is self-luminous, but brightness has to be controlled somehow. And since those are most likely integrated in the attached panel controller,i would guess it should not be a problem to fit them. Furthermore Lenovo does also offer lcd or oled options for the X1 Yoga.

Has anyone got any infos or ideas ?

FYI, different size panels. Those are 13.3". Razer Blade takes 14.1". So if you try this, you'll need to account for the extra bezel space.

Alienware R13 is 13.3" but the Lenovo X1 Yoga is 14".

That is the Panel I linked in my post.

Good catch on the Lenovo X1 Carbon being 14.1". I did not know that.

Following this thread. I'm very interested to see what comes out of this discussion.

What is your exact model blade? In order to swap out any screen on the touch version, its a huge pain and extremely difficult because you can't replace the screen without also replacing the digitizer at the same time. There used to be a place where you could get the replacement digitizers from a seller in china, but that seems to have come to an end.

I have the 2017 KabyLake FHD Model without Touch.

I am not sure if the part I linked in my first thread is with or without digitizer. In some other shop it had a picture and looked like there was a glass surface attached.

To be honest I think touch on a non convertible notebook is a waste of money.

not a compatible swap. the full hd uses a 30 pin EDP, only a screen that uses 30 pin EDP will be compatible

    I see, what a shame.
So what does the lenovo panel use, isn't it also some type of eDP ? Has it got more pins ?
