I don't own a Razer Blade 14 (yet). Ordered one, on its' way.

    I had a few driver-related questions.
    1) What does Razer Synapse control on this laptop?
    2) How (un)bloated is the default OS installation of a Razer Blade 14 (purchased from Razer, not MS Signature Edition)?
    3) Any storage space wasted on Recovery partitions?
    4) Compatible with standard nVidia GeForce driver updates?

    Thanks all.

    1. Razer Synapse allows you to assign macros for Razer products, configure lighting on Chroma and systems producs and saves it all in the cloud. You can track systems statistics and heatmaps. You can also register your Razer devices and warranties.

    2. It is completely unbloated, except for the Razer Synapse software. (I bought my directly from Razer)

    3. Disk Management shows an 11.72 GB recovery Partition, 100 mb EFI system partition, 819 mb Recovery partition and 225.73 GB NTFS Boot partition (This is after upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 without a fresh install)

    4. Not only is it standard, all nVidia drivers are done through the Nvidia GeForce Experience.

4a. I have seen some automatic updates through Windows updates that specificly mention Razer. Otherwise, you may run the updates manually from Razer's website.

Thank you very much for the answers! +rep

It's too bad that there's a recovery partition. OTherwise, I could just use the laptop as-is out of the box.

On a fresh install, I'm sure you could avoid having it. If you are concerned about the hard drive space, there are always external HD's, but I'm sure you know that. With storage in the cloud (and lan network storage) I have no issues. However, game installs have to be local! So, I have about 83GB left with a ton of apps (including Microsoft Office), Spotify, Itunes (with a ton of music), The Witcher 3, DOTA 2, Starcraft 2...etc.

The problem with the Recovery partition isn't around actual practical usable space. Like many people on NBR Forums, I have an OCD compulsion to always make sure that I "maximize" the best possible configuration out of my hardware.

So I'm not trying to reclaim that 11GB partition because I need 11GB... I want to reclaim that 11GB partition simply because I want "the best".

I'll probably end up doing a clean Windows install once I get the laptop anyway, for several reasons:

    1) I want a clean install of Windows 10 (and not a Windows 8.1 --> Windows 10 upgrade)
    2) I want that space from that 11GB recovery partition back.
    3) I don't trust partition resizing tools, because of bad past-history with 4K cluster alignment.
    4) I'm going to be swapping out the 256GB M.2 SSD with a 512GB M.2 SSD immediately once receiving the laptop anyway.
    5) I actually enjoy doing Windows installations, just so I can see how much faster my new hardware is compared to my old hardware.

I am kinda like you in that way. I'll do a clean install when I have time. You are going to love this laptop!
