This thread is meant to be a worklog of me trying to kill a Razer Blade 14 and mess with the cooling.

Temperature stress test, disassembly, close look at internals, possible cooling improvements and whatnot.

Laptop will be delivered to me about next week or so, so stay tuned.

@iunlock has the Blade Pro 1080 that is still in review process.

Ay, on the other hand, both of you guys still alive?

Dont bother posting this on the Razer forum itself, the goon squad will delete it as soon as you press "post".

This company needs to be exposed though for their piss poor quality for the prices they ask of its customers.

I spent thousands of gaming hours over nearly three years trying to kill my 2014 blade. It didn't let me down. No throttling, decent perf. Killer keyboard add trackpad. Was a good little trooper. Nothing compares build quality wise in the windows world.

You just have to know why you're buying it, they don't "suck" unless you have an expectation that's not in line with why you're buying it.

The build quality is a given, in that it's a direct rip of Apple which are known for their superb build quality.

However, I can tell you that for the RBP, the actual metal quality is rubbish compared to even a cheap unibody laptop. The bottom flap is just a thin sheet of metal.

    It's not all about looks....

Granted the RB14 may be built better than the RBP, but overall they are all in a different category, (razer being unibody), and it can not be compared apples to apples to other laptops.

IMO the XPS 15 is still the overall best build and most sturdy windows laptop today. This includes both internal and external attributes.... I didn't say that it doesn't have issues just to be clear...but those can be fixed, whereas sometimes can not on other laptops, which makes it a permanent defect.

@Mobius 1, will have a real review of the RB14 up soon as I'll have a real review up of the RBP as well. No sugar coating bubble fest...we'll call it like it is from an enthusiast stand point and not from a crowd majority stand point....

it's capable of gaming but you really can't have a high expectation of performance

I'd like to chime in here and say I've returned 4 Blade 7700hq's to date due to various defects. I love the minimalist design and tried to give it a chance, but defects and other issues didn't help with the buyer's remorse. My dream machine is a 14" (or less) with a dedicated GPU and this was the sexiest option, yet just isn't there in terms of quality. My search for my love will not come to an end. :'(

The closest thing to what you want is probably the Dell XPS 15 9560 - though that's a normal 1050, not a 1060. Asus are supposed to release a new ZenBook with a 1050 Ti soon, though can't exactly tell you what "soon" means.

Well, using it just as an ultrabook worked great past 2 days

I just tested the GPU on unigine heaven and it broke 77c within 3 minutes, not looking good.

I didn't test with Unigine. All Blades were tested with Firestrike. Most of them maintained an average of 75-78c on CPU cores and GPU after undervolts, average score was 10300 to 11000 with GPU overclocks.

The problems were backlight bleed on most of them.

one Blade had a keyboard that didn't have uniform RGB colors across the keys (an example: F1 through F4 keys had a different shade of orange than other keys near them, even after triple checking synapse settings).

One Blade had poor performance compared to the other Blades.

    One had a defective trackpad.

A real annoyance is that all Blades had random trackpad button "tightness". Not a defect, but it was upsetting.

Some of this probably wouldn't bother some people, but at this price I would call them all defects.

    Blade 14 FHD LP140WF3 SPD1 calibration profile

Very bad factory calibration, after calibration the colors are alright the sRGB coverage is average (rated 72% NTSC), color accuracy is okay

Using displaycal to see the uncalibrated white point, this is very poor because it's miles away from the perfect D6500
