I was wondering if there was anyway to make the laptop use only the Nvidia graphics card only for everything from browsing to gaming and completely disable the intel one.

    thanks,

you can mostly do that via nvidia control centre, however it will use the 4600 for windows

why you want to do that is something that is interesting to know

One reasonable scenario could be more sophisticated desktop enviroments as 3D cube interface, polygon based elements on screen, or additional effects that were meant to work very fluid. I can think of Compiz in Linux, can the intel HD handle that at 60FPS without problems? would be interesting to benchmark these scenarios.

Honestly the Intel 4600 GPU has no issues driving 1600x900, especially just for 2D stuff. Anyways, don't mean to derail the thread. Hope you find your solution :)

Can try Device Manger > Display Adapters and disable the Intel HD 4600. However, I advise installing VNC or something similar. I accidentally disabled both the integrated and dedicated cards once and the screen was just black. A secondary screen wouldn't have worked either. Thankfully, I had VNC set up and could remote in to re-enable the adapters.
