RBA 2019 Remove PL Throttling & Intel DPTF (softmode)

Hi Razer crew,

Take control of your PL by removing the Intel DPTF restrictions by using a registry tweak and removing all the devices starting with "DPTF" in device manager under "system devices" and rebooting.

Combined with an UV this is a great way to get more performance without bios mods. Still, as you know guys and gals keep an eye on them temps

So basically Synapse works in combination of the Intel DPTF platform to control the power limits?

 

Did you test this on the RBA 2019? I am testing now and not seeing a change in PL. I'm still messing around with it, but so far it is the typical behavior. The link you provided also suggest this likely won't work on the Razer Blade, so I'm curious to see if you got it to.

 

I found the options to unhide the cTDP and Intel DPTF options in the 2019 BIOS ... I think there is definitely something here.



EDIT: With the IMON offset tweak applied this CPU is allowing for 66-68w sustained throughput - I wouldn't recommend this without sufficient cooling however, I have a cooling tray and its hitting about 80 degrees during this bench. (This is a pic without the tweak to show values in Throttlestop.)

 

I haven't had time to install the unlocked bios, is there anything there that could help the RBA early 2019 8750H stop being stuck at 90W on the GPU when using the RB Pro 17 100W vbios with the MQ gpus?

 

So unless I'm mistaken, before this mod I would change the PL in XTU and it would not stick and change back to stock when changing power plans in Synapse. Now the PL sticks and boosts longer. I never draw much power as I'm heavily undervolted and use ThrottleStop.

To be honest, I haven't spent a lot of time testing also I have the 8750H maybe it's different if you have the 9750H..?

Thus far, we have been unable to find any way to get the 100W working with 8750H processors.

It is possible that there is a difference here between 8750H and 9750H, but the only thing I am seeing is Razer Synapse having complete control over what is happening with TDP. Before synapse loads, PL2 will be in place which limits the CPU to 35W. After Synapse loads, if in the custom performance modes, CPU low will set 25W, Medium 35W, and High 45W with unlimited power boost but short time window (varies unpredictably). If this mod is working for you, you should be using over 45W indefinitely, is this the case for your setup? Or perhaps, if you have the PL set to 50W, it'll pull back to 50W. The key to knowing if this is actually working is if it either boosts indefinitely, or when it does throttle, it throttles to your set point which is greater than 45W. If you are getting it work correctly, please let me know and I'll continue trying to figure out how to get this working for everyone.

 

Even with Intel DTPF my fans are whirring annoyingly loud at 48-50c ... is there a way to get finer grain control of the fans on a RB17 Pro 2019? I swear on the old RB15 the fans were off at 50 degrees. :|

 

@stranula @hackness do you guys think there's something more to this RB17 Pro 2019 BIOS with the cTDP options configurable? I also have access to Intel ICC BCLK options!

 

I am looking into this. There are some softwares around that should be able to help, but need to be configured ( https://github.com/hirschmann/nbfc/releases/tag/1.6.3) but I'm going to do some BIOS stuff and see what I can get to happen

I have changed every setting I can find to get control over the TDP to no success. Changing BCLK just caused my system to be unable to boot, requiring a CMOS battery pull. If you change it, be prepared to have to reset all your custom settings

 

I was able to get the Spread % a bit lower and booted but it still reports the same BCLK in CPU-Z.
