Possible to put the 1080p IPS screen on the new 2016 Blade 14?

I was hoping this was going to come out with an IPS display, but I'm a bit disappointed. I do a lot of photo editing and the color shift when trying to work with other people and when trying to show photos to people via laptop isn't acceptable.

I wonder if I'd be able to buy the panel from the 1080 display and maybe swap it out. It's possible the connectors are all different and I'd have to splice some stuff, but I'm just curious what folks think about the idea...

I'd totally give up some resolution for viewing angles...

    Thanks,

Does the 1080p panel really have better viewing angles than the IGZO one? I've never actually seen the 1080p version, but the 3k screen always seemed pretty good to me. Granted I can tell it isn't the absolute best IPS I've used, but have you seen the 1080p in person to confirm it is superior for your needs? Razer's best display is the one on the Stealth, an IGZO 4K display that has better viewing angles and color accuracy than the Razer Blade.

Well, the razer blade 14 screen is a standard TFT/TN screen... it's not IPS and as such has color shift at angles due to the way the LCD crystals are aligned.

What year and resolution? The 2016 Razer Blade has a 3200x1800 IGZO panel. That's not typical TN behavior wise. They can behave very similar to IPS panels. My comment was saying that while the Razer Blade 14 may not have the best IGZO I've ever seen, its clearly better than a TN panel.

Edit: It rivals some IPS panels I've seen, so I just want to make sure you've seen the 1080p IPS Blade and know that its what you need.

I have the 2016 Blade 14... it just shipped at the end of last month. Dead-on it's fine, but the right edge of the screen is tinted yellow depending on viewing angle. I can see some of it dead-on, but it gets worse if you view from the left side of the laptop.

Yeah I understand, but I have an IPS panel that's similarly crappy. All I'm saying is you should check to see if the 1080p IPS is even much better. Also no pretty sure you can't do it, unless you really wanna risk your hardware splicing.

Try running an LCD conditioning application. I fixed a similar issue on my Dell U2410 a while back. That monitor has this built in conditioning. But there are applications out there that do the exact same color cycling.
    Might fix the issue.

Don't look at it from an angle. Sit dead on.

Hard to do when collaborating with a person sitting next to me... they can't sit in my lap, have to both look at an angle...

Again I'm not saying IPS isn't something you should want, I'm just asking how the quality of the 1080p one is in comparison.

I'd have to see the 1080p one in person, haven't done that yet, but the reviews were good that I saw.

What I can't figure out is if the 2016 Blade has the same screen as this early 2015 one...

This one shows really nice viewing angles, with the same res, and what should be the same panel...

I'm not seeing those same results, so I'm wondering if Razer changed something for 2016?

The review claims this Sharp IGZO panel is IPS... it was the one review that basically cemented my choice to purchase this laptop...

This review claims IPS as well:

Also shows no discoloration on angle:

The underlying technology is exactly the same as IPS, just a different company different name thing. Its called IGZO because it uses a different transistor : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indium_gallium_zinc_oxide

AUO has their own name for it, and so do other companies.

Also try LCD conditioning before changing the panel, it helps in most cases.

Well aware that it can be IPS... IGZO is independent of TN/IPS. I'm just not seeing the viewing angles I'm used to with my main IPS displays I use on my desktop. By design, anything that mimics IPS shouldn't have any color shift at slight angles.

I'll run it through some conditioning and see what becomes of it...

Yeah, that's just how some companies cut corners. Because even IPS is further divided into sub categories based on the accuracy and view angles. I have never seen a Sharp panel, so i dont know what it looks like but the LG and AUO ones have been way better. Im sure high Sharps are just as good.
But that color shift is weird, unless the existing one is a TN. I remember hearing something about the panel in in Linus's video though.
