I just thought I'd let users know that Razer will under no circumstances sell replacement parts of their laptops.

They will not even sell a replacement battery without paying to ship in the Blade and charging $217 to replace the battery themselves. Even if you knowingly are voiding warranty or out of warranty and provide them laptop and battery serial number on a registered laptop. They can also deny replacement of components, so you're totally out of luck if they for whatever reason decide to deny it.

So word to the users who ever need to replace a component, battery included, you'll be out your laptop for at least a week, charged for labor for something that takes 5 minutes to do, and possibly denied any chance of getting your laptop fixed even, or being roped into another repair you may not even need.

Wow. Just wow. The odds of me keeping any Razer blade unit I have just dropped to about zero. That's absurd beyond all reason.

    Thanks for letting us know.

Simply emailing and calling Razer and asking for a replacement battery. I realize this is a refurb and ended up having a couple issues, and willing to replace/repair personally, and pay out of pocket to fix. Battery seems to be one of the issues with this unit as well. It was not showing charge percentage, but was working normally. Now it won't even charge and battery is not detected. I figured for $100-$150 to get a replacement battery is worth the risk. But if I send it in, and then they say I need to replace the motherboard or some other component, I'm SOL.

It's too bad really. I really like the build quality of this laptop. The screen is beautiful and in general has offered a pleasant gaming experience. But knowing that I can't even touch the insides of this laptop or swap out even basic components when needed is a major turn off. I was actually considering keeping it, but knowing this I simply cannot.

Welcome to the age of the disposable laptop. You got it from the eBay seller right? I'm beginning to think that these are repackaged returns instead of razer refurbished.

They are definitely not Razer refurbs. They come with no warranty from Razer. They are mostly like returns from the Microsoft store as mine had a Microsoft Signature service flyer in the box.

Well mines should arrive tomorrow and I will make sure to put it through the paces to make sure everything works. Did you decide to keep yours?

I'm on the fence. However, I used a SquareTrade coupon and added 2 years of warranty just in case.

I would NOT keep this laptop without adding an additional warranty.

FYI, many extended protection plans that say "2 years" are actually "2 years from the purchase date". This is an important distinction because many credit cards will double the original manufacturer warranty (usually up to one extra year). So you may just be buying needless double coverage. Read your cc benefits to ensure you are eligible for this. Of course if you bought an extended protection plan that covers accidental damage (drops, spills, etc) then that's a different scenario.

Do credit card companies really cover used/refurbished items?? Most of the ones I've seen do not.

Now if I had purchased new, yes, I would rely on Razer / my credit card company.

SquareTrade kicks in 45 days after my eBay purchase, and I'm just counting it towards the cost of the laptop. I'm still around $1400, so I can't complain too much.

Oops, didn't notice you had bought it from eBay. I think the general consensus on the eBay units is they are not manufacturer refurbished, so yeah none of the cc warranty extensions will work. I think AmEx will do warranty extensions on refurbished items, though.

The advice I gave is for users buying new (from Razer or a reseller like Microsoft)
