    Overclock possible!?

    I just had a look in HWInfo only to find this - surely a laptop chip should have all these options "locked" ???

    I’m assuming you mean for the CPU? If so then you can’t overclock the 9750H. It’s locked and you can’t overclock it. You can undervolt it to run cooler and have a more consistent boost clock.
    Now the GPU is overclockable with Msi after burner. But these max-q GPUs don’t overclock very well. So it’s not really worth it. Though again you can undervolt it to make it run cooler. But the GPU’s seem to run very cool compared to the CPU this generation.

    Why would all those options in HWInfo say [Unlocked] though?

    Honestly I Don’t have an answer for that. But for literally as long as I’ve been into laptops if the CPU doesn’t have a “K” in the name it’s not overclockable. So only the 9980HK is overclockable.

    Thats only related to the PL1 and PL2 limits, also known as, undervolt and turbo boost time limit, its still hard limited to 96 seconds on the PL1 and a couple dozen ms's in the PL2, and your system BIOS/EC can/might also limit it further, plus, the maximum TDP is also hard capped to some value that your laptop OEM decided(usually the limit its in the VRM's).

    TDP unlocked means that you can lower the TDP to the cTDP down values.

    Thats perfectly fine and expected, your clock ratios are all locked, all you can do is undervolt and play with the PL1/2 values to extract the most of your CPU.
