Ordered it yesterday with express shipping (hasn't shipped yet) with my 30% off coupon code. I realize tech gets outdated rather quickly so I am not concerned with that too much but I was unaware the RAM was soldered on until I started reading reviews last night. How limiting has the 8GB been for you? Looking at my signature you can see I am used to having lots of available RAM and I usually kill page files on my higher RAM machines. Would be interested to see HOW it is soldered on because if it's like a few that I've seen I could actually replace it with two 8GB modules instead of what should be two 4GB modules (can't operate in dual data mode if it's a single module). As far as I know this is the only screen with QHD+ and the high resolution was a huge win for me making this purchase. I plan on getting a 3 year extended Square Trade warranty and it seems that everyone has weird issues after about 12 months anyway so I can use the money I'm getting back (since they won't fix it) to cover the replacement cost of another machine when the time comes.

    Depends on what you're doing.

I've found 8GB of RAM to be sufficient for my usage but 4GB to be too little. I plan to have 16GB+ in my next computer.

Both my work and home computers have in common 8GB of RAM/Win 7 Pro 64-bit/antivirus/MS Office installed
Work: running SQL Studio 2012 w/ local instance + multiple database queries active, Outlook, web browser w/ a couple tabs: hovers around 4GB RAM used
Home: running Photoshop CS5E and processing 6-8 17MB RAW images simultaneously: hovers around 5GB used

The computers seems plenty responsive if I decide to do something else while the above tasks are in progress.

Now if you are running multiple virtual machines, editing high-res video ...I think 8GB will be insufficient. But for all general and even the more intense usages as I illustrated, I've not found it to be an issue.

Congrats on the notebook by the way.

8gb is EXTREMELY limiting COMPARED to other components like its quad core and gpu.

It will be the EXTREME bottleneck.

Doesn't matter if you can get by now. COMPARED!!!! to other parts, its RIDICULOUS bottleneck. Might as well pack a dual core..

8GB is plenty for gaming, don't listen to anyone that says otherwise.

Unless you are doing work with humongous professional media file editing or running multiple VMs for software development you'll be fine.

    Games are starting to
ask for 8 GB of RAM for recommend specs. A lot of them are unoptimized but still. It's certainly not extremely limiting but it's not ideal either. This and lackluster cooling were the reasons why I decided against a RB14. But as stated above, most people do not need more. 16+ is usually for multiple VMs and editing and possibly gaming in the future but certainly not now.

Unless you want to run a bunch of VM's then 8GB is fine. It's still rare that a game will use more than 8GB of RAM.

It's not, other manufacturers are churning them out. I myself am eyeing the Dell XPS 13 with that same resolution.

I purchased the RB 14(2014) 256GB at 30% off as well. Have you received yours yet? I'll receive mine on Tuesday according to the tracking number. Let me know how you like/dislike yours. btw do you know if this one has an additional M.2 slot?

Single M2 slot only. Regretting buying the 256GB would have bought the 512GB had I known that. I mean, we can buy another 512GB but the price varies between $200-500. Someone somewhere got an M2->mSATA adapter and hooked up a regular mSATA SSD no idea how they mounted it though.

I would have just ordered the 512 as well had I known. Welp, I guess that's what I get for not doing the research first.

You can get a Crucial 512GB m.2 SATA that performs better (better write speed) to replace it. Like 279 on amazon.

It went up $20 since I last saw it. ($299)
    http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ITFZTHC

EDIT: And just like that there's no more left and the cheapest one from another seller is $375. In doing some research it seems Crucial has discontinued this 2280 format m.2 SATA SSD, Too bad as it was the only 512GB m.2 Type 2280 SATA SSD that had 500mb/s write. The others are 350mb/s. If you happen to see one for sale I'd nab it while you can. Of course Crucial may be making a new model available soon.

My money is on razer moving to PCIe with the 2015 blade, it's WAY faster, the PCIe SSD on my MacBook pro scorches.
