Recently took delivery of my Razer Blade 15. Ordered from HIDevo and customized with the optional Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut on CPU + GPU, and Fujipoly Extreme Thermal Pads on heat sensitive surfaces. Everything else remains stock.

I have a Sopiguard skin and a 2tb NVME coming in the next few days. Before I install those I would like to do some testing in its stock configuration. Its been a while since I did any benchmarks, what should I download for benchmarks and temp monitoring? I can post some numbers if any of you are interested. Thanks

    UPDATE

My unit came undervolted -0.100 out of the box. The laptop
is idling with the following temps with an ambient room temperature of 24C / 75F:

    CPU idle: 47c-48c
    GPU idle: 44c
    SSD idle: 36c

Below benchmarks were done at default settings. Gaming Mode is OFF

    Time Spy Score: 6988
    Max CPU temp: 79c
    Max GPU temp: 70c
    Max SSD temp: 47c

    Fire Strike Score: 15646
    Max CPU temp: 82c
    Max GPU temp: 70c
    Max SSD temp: 47c

Running the same benchmarks this time with Gaming Mode turned ON

    Time Spy Score: 7611
    Max CPU temp: 80c
    Max GPU temp: 71c
    Max SSD temp: 45c

    Fire Strike Score: 17619
    Max CPU temp: 80c
    Max GPU temp: 71c
    Max SSD temp: 46c

    Did some testing using Furmark

    Preset 1080 Benchmark Score: 6278
    Min FPS: 102
    Max FPS: 110
    Ave FPS: 105
    Max temp: 70c

    Ran for 15mins at 1920x1080 8X MSAA
    Min FPS: 41
    Max FPS: 46
    Ave FPS: 42

Have decided to upgrade the default 500GB Samsung NVME to an Addlink 2TB NVME drive.

Upon opening the bottom cover I was surprised to see the RAM slots were free from obstruction, unlike previous models where you have to remove a ribbon cable.

For some unknown reason, I couldn't get to clone the default 500GB Samsung drive to my new 2TB Addlink drive. I have tried several cloning software like Macrium, Acronis and AOMEI but the cloned drive just won't boot to Windows. In the end, I just did a clean install of Windows 10.

The Samsung drive will now go into a Plugable enclosure.

Although the Razer Blade 15 has an amazing build, I didn't like its fingerprint-prone finish. Installed a Sopiguard Honeycomb black skin (similar to dbrand's swarm skin). Installation was a pain and ended up with some bubbles.

I went with Sopiguard because they offer a skin for the keyboard area which dbrand doesn't. For the keyboard area and trackpad I went with Matte Black which I managed to put on perfectly.

Thanks for list. Will be downloading these.

My RB15 came installed with Intel Extreme Tuning Utility. I guess this comes pre installed with every RB15?

Since my laptop is still new and haven’t installed much on it yet, I want to create a backup thumb drive where in if anything goes wrong and I can restore the laptop back to it’s factory state. I assume this is where “Create a recovery drive” under Windows settings come into play?

Some have suggested ThrottleStop is a better program than XTU for CPU power control. Though Apparently XTU has a read out that is nice to read. Take care not to make changes with both programs or you may have issues.

Here is, imo, some good info regarding ThrottleStop

Remember, this guide is not exact and some fiddling may be required to get the perfect settings.

Thanks for sharing. Those temps arent bad. Id be interested in hearing how they change with an undervolt. How loud is the fan to you under load?

According notebookcheck, on stock thermal paste max stress test Furmark and prime95 isn’t thermal throttle which is not bad at all.

    Update

I have been using this machine for over a week already and have had 2 instances of BSOD. First was when installing Time Spy through Steam and the second one happened during the updating of the Razer Synapse software just 2 days ago. I’m not entirely sure what the BSOD means but I’m guessing that is software related?

There are also instances when the fans would turn on to its max on a fresh boot. A restart wont fix the fans and the only way to put them back to normal speed is a proper shut down then power on. This happened twice already at random times. Hope this is also a software issue.

If you have undervolt your Cpu. Then maybe you should decrease a few steps. BSOD is common if you have put higher undervolt than what the chips is able to handle. Aka it will be unstable.

Hi bimmerboii, is it possible to set the laptop display refresh rate to 100, 120 or 144hz?

I just RMA my unit because of the same issues. With or without undervolt, I had random blue screens, sometimes one week without any, other times everyday.

Tried clean windows install, not having attached usbs, memtest86 and the list goes on.

In the end I just RMA while warranty last :)

Edit: I have 2018 model though

Oh dear that isnt good. I have not done any undervolt yet. Will continue to observe this machine some more.

Edit: Do you still remember the type of BSOD error you had? Both my errors were the same: Stop code:video_tdr_failure
    What failed: nvlddmkm.sys

A quick google suggests its a video driver error?

Run WhoCrashed. Now or after next BSOD. Check the log what it say and google the results. You could of course re-install aka new clean OS and install lates drivers(download beforehands so you can install everything before you connect network and activate Windows). Good luck.

Download and test 2 or 3 of lates Nvidia drivers. Use DDU to clean up before you install new drivers... Display Driver Uninstaller v18.0.14

Read the guide if you aren't familar with the tool.

I just ran "WhoCrashed" and all points to a faulty driver.

    Edit:
Conclusion: 5 crash dumps have been found and analyzed. A third party driver has been identified to be causing system crashes on your computer. It is strongly suggested that you check for updates for these drivers on their company websites. Click on the links below to search with Google for updates for these drivers:

nvlddmkm.sys (NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 430.64 , NVIDIA Corporation)

    Now onto the DDU..

Im reading up on cpu undervolting and slowly starting to understand the basics. I have not changed any setting but upon checking XTU (Core Voltage Offset) and HWMonitor (IA Offset) it seems my machine is undervolted out of the box?

Yeah, @Prema got rid of the forced undervolt by Cevo in his firmware mods. But reagardsles... -100mv shouldn't intefere much with the chips functinality. Most chips will handle this undervolt.

Ok thanks for that. I didn't know some manufacturers would do this out of the box. Looks like I won't be touching the said subject anymore since it already is undervolted by default. Feels safer for me to leave it as it is.

I'm getting exactly the same BSOD since upgrading to the latest drivers (430.64). With previous drivers I never encountered the BSOD. Also one thing to note, I only encountered those BSOD when on battery.

I've posted on both GeForce and Microsoft forums for help.

This might be able to be done as a workaround for now: https://www.reddit.com/r/battlefiel...drdelay_10_fixed_my_crashes_since_last_patch/

I've done countless clean installs with DDU and the latest game ready driver v430.64. but still getting BSOD.

Which driver version are you running? Edit nvm just read a few posts back you're also running the same version.

I've just modified the tdrdelay in my registry from 2 to 10. Hopefully that can suffice as a workaround for now until NVIDIA and Microsoft can determine what the cause is of the BSOD.

I have decided to upgrade the default 500GB Samsung NVME drive to a 2TB Addlink NVME drive. I spent so many hours trying to clone the drive but it just won't boot to Windows. I tried both Macrium and AOMEI and get the same results. The Addlink drive I bought is similar to the Sabrent NVME drive where in cloning just won't work (reviews of the Sabrent drive say its not possible to clone this drive).

What are my options to copy the drive if cloning doesn't work?

I had the same issue trying to clone to larger ssd using an external nvme enclosure connected through the USB c port using Macrium Reflect but no dice ....

Have checked several forums and in the end it seems (...its still not clear to me..) that in Win10 its not possible..I noticed that after cloning the primary partition on the new cloned drive did not contain the boot record...

Trying recovery disk to repair boot record (as advised by some forums) also didn’t work..

In the end had to clean install, run win10 update and install synapse 3

I thought so too.. I am very tempted to do a clean install to iron out some issues I am having. But how about the recovery partition of the original drive? Any way to transfer that?

I have read that some Razer Blade owners have issues with the trackpad and keyboard lighting after a clean install. Any issues you have encountered? I also dont want to lose the Razer Windows theme (orange fonts) which I really like..

Edit: On my own findings there are certain NVME drives like mine that just dont work with cloning. Havent heard anythig yet about Windows 10 OS itslef not allowing to be cloned.

I tried to run razer recovery from the cloned drive once installed and it starts to run but after a while just reboots the laptop and same boot error as before

The recovery partition is copied over if you clone the whole drive (all partitions)

No issue with clean install...it just takes a Long time to complete the win10 update...but after installing synapse everything works fine and in device manager all seems fine with no alert of any device/component having missing driver or conflict

As for the orange font... I actually didn’t notice that ....

I also tried to run Razer recovery but it seems to get stuck at 1%. No dice

Ah right. So clone the drive, then clean install Windows 10 on the OS partition only. I didn't think of that.

    Good to know thanks

Having the recovery partition then installing clean Windows didnt work for me. Windows wouldnt boot. Erasing the whole drive is the only one that worked for my clean install.

Didn’t mean to use back the old recovery partition... during windows clean install it will create its own one again.

Yes...full wipe of the drive... :)

Does the keyboard skin eliminate smudges completely?

The matte black skin isn't smudge-free, but is a lot easier to clean than the aluminum body of the RB15.

    Hello guys,

I'm interested in if the computer is silent in normal work. I'll play it once a week with my son, in the rest of time I'll use it for office work and internet surfing.
it is very important for me to be quiet, best without any noise (like my Mac).
I read very bad comments about RAZER in Amazon, what is your experience?

    BR

It depends on your workload and the ambient temperatures. If the laptop gets hotter than 55C, the coolers will kick in. You can use ThrottleStop to disable Turbo Boost or lower the clocks/voltage, but it doesn't really help much and for me coolers often turn on even when just browsing in Google Chrome. There is a tutorial to increase the temperature threshold via BIOS modification, but it had no effect on my unit.

I have configured throttlestop to do the same on mine and couldn't agree more. My RB15 is silent at all times. Even when gaming the fans dont go full blast. Although my RB15 is on liquid metal which has vastly improved cooling.

MS Office applications shouldn't generate much fan noise at all. But do look into undervolting as it will help the laptop stay cooler & quiter. Also, my tip is to prop up or elevate the back of the laptop for extra ventilation. Its a basic move but helps a lot in cooling.

So, I ordered one and the power supply went bad after about 3 games of Overwatch. Returned it. Hesitating trying again ... is the general feeling around here that having problems with these laptops is an outlier these days?

Yeah a lot of people have issues with Razer's lack of quality control. If you had a good laptop with a bad psu, you should've considered returning just the psu for an exchange? The RB15 is such a beautiful and powerful device.. when it works that is.
