    How much performance drop in razer core?

    thinking on getting razer core with a 2080 ti for my razer blade 2080 max q.
    How much performance drop will the 2080 ti have vs a regular 2080 ti desktop setup?

    Up to 20%, especially if you use the internal screen. its a bit better if you use an external screen exclusive. But it is still quite the drop. CHeck PCI express scaling benchmarks and search for results on 4x through PCH, that is pretty much equal to Thunderbolt 3 speeds.

    Ya, researched it in the past, planing on getting external monitor. Just wondering if to get 2080 ti or 1080 ti because of diminishing returns. Will i be able to get 2080 desktop performance? With extermal monitor ofc

    The 1080TI would be useless compared to your laptop specs. The 2080TI would be around 2080 desktop levels, sometimes faster depending on the game, sometimes maybe a tad slower. That is the issue with Thunderbolt 3, sometimes the bottleneck almost isnt there, other times it larger than you expect.

    Having 2080maxq laptops with TB3 Limited Bandwidth There’s no sense getting Razer Core setting for performance reason. Maybe 2080ti would take advantage on 4K resolution. On 1080p it’ll be huge performance drop I mean really huge. Over that there’s also quite titles that hate TB3 bandwidth like most Ubisoft titles, forza horizon 4 etc.
    I tested 2080ti with Blade 15 2018, performance losses didn’t worth €1,2K gpu. So I went with 2080 for almost half price but performance difference isn’t such huge than 2080ti TB3 egpu setting.

    So ur getting almost equal performance with the 2080ti and 2080 in the razer core ?
    Im planing on pluging a 1440p monitor or hooking it up to my 4k 60hz tv.
    So an rtx 2080 in 1440p display will lose about 15-20% performance ? Thats what the 2080 max q in the razer laptop is almost about.. kinda not worth the 2000$ investment..

    I will only use the razer core with a 1440p monitor. Wondering whats performance lost is there for rtx 2080/2080 ti

    I think for 2K it’s not worth at all imo. I had Core v2 over 2 years, bought also for €300 new for stealth 2016, gpu was also 1080ti because I had Blade 14. Sold 1080ti after a year usage try this and that, ended with side grade 2080, of course 2080ti performs better but only around 15% improvement for almost double price. I’ll get 2080ti later when I find reliable price, I like better performance. Without Core I think you can run fine on 1440p, with core your advantage maybe only better cpu thermal and crazy gpu OC, since your cpu and GPU sharing each other thermal.

    So the only way to get a 2080 desktop pc performance through razer core, is by getting 2080ti ? While connected to an external monitor.

    Yes kind of, note I think I also mentioned there’re some titles that really bad on TB3 bandwidth and TB3 bandwidth is bad on high FPS. It’s great for 4K gaming that most maxq gpu can’t handle. Yes connection directly from gpu on enclosure to monitor would avoid data looping from host laptop that translates better FPS, but since all Blade laptops use PCIe3x4 lanes, the FPS difference won’t be huge like on PCIe3x 2 lanes laptops, like some Lenovo or old Dell XPS.

    The 20% figure you see is just a ballpark for higher resolutions and high details. Certain titles have issues with frame timing on eGPUs and you will see 50% FPS or less comparing at 1080p sometimes. Even lower than that if you were to compare lower resolutions at lower details, actually. Wolfenstein II was one game that I just couldn't get running at 60 fps regardless of the detail level on a 1070, but there are others to be sure.

    Here's a real world test for reference that I just completed, same GPU, same monitor, same graphics settings. Shadow of the Tomb Raider benchmark on Razer blade 8750h with Razer Core X Chroma w/ RTX 2080Ti, 3440x1440, average FPS 64. Desktop test i9-9920x RTX 2080Ti, 3440x1440, average FPS 87. The larger the resolution, the less the performance drop.

    thx for this , helped a lot for my decision, dont think that it is worth paying 1700$ when u lose like 20-30% performance, thats a real big shame :(
