I got my Razer 14 yesterday brand new from newegg.
I have not installed anything and noticed that I can NOT shut down the machine.
Whenever I shut down Windows 8.1 (by clicking the *shutdown* menu option), the machine goes into some kind of sleep mode where the screen goes blank, the keyboard lights shut off, but there is a blinking green light in the front right edge of the laptop that blinks green for several hours until I do a hard shut down. The only way I can shut it down is to hold down the power button for 10 seconds (hard shut down). I get the same problem when I *restart* Windows 8.1, it hangs on a black screen and the laptop does not actually shut down or restart.

Also, when I leave the computer in this abnormal suspended state for several hours, the laptop heats up a lot until the power button is almost too hot to touch and the fans blow full blast (despite the screen being blank).

I have *not* installed anything and I have not changed any configuration settings. The laptop was charged for 3 hours and battery is fully charged. The abnormal behavior (unable to shut down) occurs while on AC power and also while unplugged.

Has anyone seen this sort of problem? What can cause a laptop to not shut down?

    UPDATE November 10, 2013:

Thanks to the post by PCAnyWhere below, I was able to solve the problem.

Basically, my new Razer Blade 14 came with Windows 8.1 and Killer Wireless-N 1202 version 10.0.1.222 driver which is INCOMPATIBLE with Win 8.1. I am shocked that a premium laptop like this is shipping with a driver that prevents the operating system from shutting down. Razer still has the old faulty drivers available for download on the Razer web site. Razer contacted me to let me know that the new drivers are still undergoing internal testing before official release (soon).

Anyway, to fix the problem, I had to do this:
    1. Download Killer driver version 64Bit (Version # 1.0.36.1278) from http://www.killergaming.com/support/driverdownloadsupport
Note that the new version oddly is called 1.0.36.1278 while the old version is called 10.0.1.222. Strange, I know.
    2. Install the new drivers which automatically uninstalls the old drivers.
    3. The Uninstaller (built-in to the new drivers) hangs after it reaches 100%. After waiting 30 minutes at 100%, I shut down the PC manually using the Shutdown menu option of Windows 8.1.
    4. Doing this caused the PC to hang with a blank screen (same old shutdown problem described in original post).
    5. I had to do a hard shutdown by pressing power button for 10 seconds.
    6. After Windows 8.1 rebooted, the Killer software installed the new drivers and asks to reboot.
    7. Reboot took place with no problems.
    8. Wifi worked flawlessly.
    9. The Windows 8.1 Shutdown and Restart problems are now gone. Problem solved.

I think it may be related to this default setting:
Fast Startup - Turn On or Off in Windows 8

    " Warning
There have been many Windows 8 users complaining about various restart and shutdown issues when Fast Startup (aka: hybrid boot or hybrid Shutdown) is turned on. They report that their computers restart themselves as soon as the sign in screen appears, and some that their computer systems hang while rebooting or shutting down the system.

If you experience any of the issues, then you might turn off "Fast Startup" to see if it was the cause.

If you dual boot Windows 8 with a previous version of Windows (ex: Windows 7, Vista, XP), then it is recommended to turn off Fast Startup to avoid the issues above."

I sent a note to Razer support about a problem where my brand new Blade (3 days old) wouldn't shutdown or restart properly. they said to install the new Killer-N 1202 driver; which I did and that seemed to do the trick.

My computer wasn't going to sleep either and I was moving it and my computer heated up to the point where all the aluminium was very hot to the touch as a result.
