I'm in a bit of a pickle here. I have accidently changed a setting in the bios of my Razer Blade 14" that has caused the display to stop functioning. :( Long story. Suffice to say: don't repeat my mistake, namely setting Boot -> CSM parameter -> Video OpROM to 'do not launch'.

My screen now stays completely black after pressing the power-on button. I have the suspicion however that (other than the display) the laptop is still working. So if I knew the precise sequence of keyboard strokes for accessing the bios and restoring it to the factory defaults, then I might be able to fix my laptop.

Could anyone find this sequence of keyboard strokes and tell it to me? I would be eternally grateful!

Why not connect an HDMI monitor or television?

All he needs is the sequence of key strokes to restore BIOS defaults so that he can enter them in 'blind' - with nothing on the screen. Eg. Switch ON, press F2, press right arrow 3 times, down arrow 2 times and ENTER twice. (Note: I'm on a VIAO - don't try this on a Razer).

Yes, exactly! That is what I would need, only for a Razer Blade.

I know way back in the day there was a battery on the mobo that keeps bios settings ... not sure if they still use that nowadays though.

Or just connect to an HDMI enable monitor and reset it that way. I keep saying this because its your best option.

I haven't tried that yet, since I don't have a HDMI monitor (or any monitor for that matter). I'll give it a go when I find a friend who has a HDMI monitor.

The thought did cross my mind. For now it's my option of last resort though, since I would like to avoid disassembling my entire laptop when possible.

Hurray! :) The screen works again. I've called the customer support of Razer and they were able to check the order of key strokes.

After powering on I had to press:
    -del
    -left arrow (1x)
    -down arrow (4x)
    -enter (2x)
    -arrow up (4x)
    -enter (2x)

This succesfully restored the bios factory defaults and brought my screen back. Quite an easy solution, but rather impossible to figure out yourself of course when you can't see anything.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. It was very much appreciated!

    Great! :)

Lesson: If you don't know what it is, don't mess with it. ;)

OK, in trying to get my 2014 Blade to boot to USB I managed to do this exact same thing. Can someone please either tell me the "Press XXX to load defaults", plus the following keys to accept and confirm and reboot, or if that doesn't work even the keystrokes to blindly reset the UEFI settings back to default, especially the video setting.

I already tried connecting an eternal display, which just mirrors the internal and is blank at the same times. I also tried removing the CMOS battery for about 20 mins and the problem persists. I can try leaving the battery out overnight but I may lose a year of my life worrying about it overnight. Also tried the keypresses in above posts but it never worked for me.

Why it came to this is I grew frustrated with no matter what I tried it would go right into the BIOS and not even let me boot to anything (external USB drive or the new internal one I installed). The ssd I am messing with was recognized by the BIOS, and the USB drive worked fine in Windows.

Sorry for the bother, I finally found some BIOS screens form the 2013 online and did a bunch of combos of F3 (and they "Y" and "enter" in diff combos to reset), then F4 and the same combos to save and exit.

It worked. Now how the heck do you really get USB to boot lol.

Yeah, I was just going to say, usually it's just F3 to set defaults and F4 will save and reboot. Been there, done that.

To get USB to boot, if you have a UEFI bootable USB then probably spam F7 during restart or bootup to bring up bootable options list. If your bootable drive is just some DOS based utilility then you will have to disable UEFI to boot off the USB drive. Then re-enable it once you're done. Just don't turn off UEFI if you're trying to install Windows off USB because then you can't turn it back on when Windows is installed, it will install as a "non UEFI" installation.

BTW since I made the same mistake with the Razer 14 2014 edition (oops), the fix is slightly different with that version of the Aptio Setup Utility:

    -del
    -left arrow (1x)
    -down arrow (2x)
    -enter (2x)
    -arrow up (2x)
    -enter (2x)
