I've spent the last hour trying to disable the right->left swipe gesture that brings up the task bar. I've tried the following:

    1. Edited (set value to 0) Left Edge Pull, Right Edge Pull, and Right Edge Pull Extended Zone in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTPEnh\ZoneConfig\TouchPadRMIHID 0\

    This had no effect

    2. Browsed Synaptics driver options.

    No settings found for gestures

    3. Tried to install latest OEM Synaptics Driver

    Installation failed without any details

Anyone had any luck with this? I ing hate the charms bar and the accidental swiping is really annoying me.

This was frustrating me for ages. I think I've finally found a solution:

Make a backup of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh\PlugInConfig\Defaults\CustomZones and all sub-keys, then delete it.

Tested under Win8.1 using Synaptics v17.0.15 drivers (Razer not generic).

That took a fair while to figure out - let me know if it works for you.

charliebruce I just signed to this forum to say THANK YOU.
I can not thank you enough!

@Semi you can backup by exporting the key and saving it.

Works for me on a clevo WS230SS using synaptics drivers v18.0.5. The fact that the swipe for charms gesture is in the driver but there is no option to turn it off is super backwards.

Thanks so much! This works under Win8.1 on my MSI GT70 and Synaptics v18.0.7.0 (09.01.2014) too!

Rightclick the key you want to backup and select Export ...
