I have two Razer Blades hooked up to external Dell U2713HM monitors via HDMI.

The Razer is maxing out at 1920x1080 for this monitor, but I've read online people have been able to squeeze 2560x1440 by setting a custom resolution. I know that technically that's exceeding the limits of HDMI but it appears to work for multiple people.

The Intel monitor driver allows you to set custom resolutions, but that only appears to work for the laptop display.

How do you set a custom resolution for the Nvidia chip driving the external display? I asked Razer and they said to right click on desktop and select the Nvidia control panel, but my Nvidia control panel only shows the version number and some misc 3D settings - it is not the control panel shown at Custom Resolutions | NVIDIA but some sort of limited version?

    Windows 8.1
    Nvidia control panel 7.5.760.0
    Nvidia driver 331.65

    Thanks for any help!

Odd, my Blade defaults the HDMI connection to the Intel HD 4600. I can set the resolution in the Intel settings. When my monitor is plugged in, I can switch between changing the settings for the built in monitor and the external.

You could try to install the nvidia drivers from their website, but I'm not sure if they're compatible. A lot of notebooks are, but a few aren't.

I'm in the same boat, even with booting with AC adapter on, I can't get the nvidia control panel to work ... what's the problem ?
