    Change the vBIOS with a hardware programmer?

    It's me Mario.

    I have some questions about a hardware programmer. I read very often that you need a hardware programmer to edit the vbios from RTX cards and being able to flash it. So how does it work, do I need another PC/Laptop to access the vbios while editing it?

    My desire is to increase the TDP up to 120W. I know it can be dangerous etc. Currently im using a 105W TDP vbios and the temps are at max 76°C. Has anyone experience in stuff like that?

    What are your laptops specs?

    I had the 100W vbios for my early 2021 17” with the 3080 and flashed the 130W from the mid 2021 refresh and it was an easy and painless process without using a hardware programmer.

    Well forgot the important stuff.

    it’s a 2070 maxQ refresh. The stock vbios is 80/90 but the one I found is 105W. I know that I have to change the TDP limit and then flash it via a HW programmer to bypass the vbios "lock"

    As far as I'm aware, the only way to get a higher TDP is to cross-flash a vbios that is rated at a higher TDP, in this case 115W which is the maximum for the mobile 2070. There is no way to edit the vbios to set a higher TDP. Doing so carries a bit of risk, but mostly losing some type of functionality such as usb-c to display port loss, and I believe the worst I've read about it loss of hdmi functionality. You would have to try cross flashing yourself and testing to see what if any functionality is loss. The second and more dangerous route would be a shunt mod. I do not recommend this as it is highly technical and a small mistake can potentially kill your whole laptop.

    Crossflashing doesn't work. I tried it before, the card goes into a safe mode clockwise. Losing HDMI etc isn't bad for me. I just read often that you have to edit the vbios but by doing it a signature gets broken and the vbios becomes un-flashable. Thats the part where the hardware programmer bypasses the locks and signatures. 105W is pretty much the highes I found on the internet for a 2070 maxQ.
