I got my razer blade 14'' recently and its been having problems with the back light on the keyboard. It just shuts off for no reason! It happened a few days ago and after restarting, it didnt help. I then power down the machine for a few minutes and the lights turned back up when i turned on the machine.
Again last night it happened and i contacted Razer and this time shutting down did not help, i tried using Synapse 2.0 but nothing helped. Razer told me to do an exchange and the faulty device back. I dont wanna do that because the customs tax on importing is like $160 on this thing and I dont get that back in Canada... I already paid that amount and I would have to pay again for the new one they ship to me.
After they sent me info for shipping, i decided to reset windows and the trick worked, The back light worked fine and now it just happened again!!! Dammit Razer!
Anyone know what I should do?
Note: The light is fine i think because they lit up even when I thought they were dead and when i press the CAPSLOCK key, the light underneath turns on like regularly. I dont know what is happening, windows is up to date.

    Please help!

There is no help for this unfortunately best bet is to RMA and try to convince RAZER to pay for shipping, this is the second time I've seen this problem, hopefully it's not widespread.

I've had the similar problem with my alienware laptop backlit keyboard.
I simply just replaced the keyboard and it worked fine, but with razer laptop I don't think that's an option.
Call Razer again and explain your sistuation to them. Best luck to you.

It might be a glitch on the driver but I dunno how good Razer warranty is?? Do they come to your house to fix it? Do they pay for return shipping label both ways?

    @benchmade

So far the CEO sent a personal message to the other guy who had this, told hi to hang on to the computer for the time being while a replacement was shipped. Hopefully they contintue this level of service, and fix the problem!

I can understand the original posters pain though, as i am also not US based and sending anything overseas sends a chill down my spine. The cost of Fedex is EXTREME, postal services are not reliable and customs fees make the product more expensive than if you bought it in country.

I hope razer was able to send him just the keyboard. Although their non user serviceable policy probably makes this impossible.

I just bought one last week and the same thing happened to me...except I didn't notice it until I'd installed Win8 Pro, VS, Sql Server and blah blah blah...mainly my way of saying "days later and lots of work". I took it to the local repair shop and they didn't even know where to begin. I did suspect that it might be a driver issue, so I [painfully] rebooted to F9 and did a factory reset. Still no backlighting, though the icon on the back of the screen is just fine for lighting.

I don't like that rebooting your machine actually did fix the problem - I'd much rather it be a bad cord connection or a driver issue than an inconsistent issue.

They emailed me back saying that I need to RMA mine, as well...which is going to be painful given that a) I'd already wiped my previous work machine last week in preparation for using this one and b) the repair guys opened it, which I'm imagining is the magic button for "sorry, no warranty, you're toast..." Honestly, I'm happy (well maybe "happy" isn't the right word...maybe "willing" is?) to pay for it to get fixed, even though it's less than a week old...but point (a) really screwed me up....how long did it take for them to receive and then send you out a new or fixed one? I'm terribly worried I spent the extra $ for expedited shipping last week on a bad unit which is now going to take me 3-4 weeks to ever see again anyhow.

Would love to hear how things went on your side...this is my first experience with Razer and I would *love* to hear from others that they are good people to deal with...

    Thanks and let me know!!

I doubt that you will have to pay for a repair. that is unless the repair guy screwed something up on the inside. Otherwise if all he did was open the bottom of the unit and take a quick look for loose connections you'll be just fine under warranty.

My Razer Blade (2012) R2 got the same problem. I tried reset into factory setting and it does NOT work.

AND This is even after the RMA. A while ago, my laptop's ssd has an issue and need to be replaced, which I did. The sad part is that I lived in Thailand, and shipping cost to beyond words.

    Any suggestion?

Hi everyone, i just recently got my blade 14 and had the exact same issue.. thankfully i fixed it easily
open up razer synapse and create a new profile.. and thats it, backlight fixed.. i think its a bug with the default profile that kills it.

I know you already fixed the problem, but I had a similar problem where my back light went out when my cat sat on it (He likes his junk toasty...). Turns out the only problem was that is was dimmed by the FN-F10 key. All I did was increase the light by holding FN and F11...
Your problem still probably wasnt this issue, but hey I wouldn't have known if I hadn't randomly held down the FN key.
