    Hi !

I am wishing to buy a laptop cooler for my new Blade 14. I don't want this 2000$ machine to fail because of overheating...
I know I should elevate the back of the PC while playing, with a book or anything else making more air flow beneath the computer. But I may think I need more...

Are laptop coolers worth it ? Which brand should I buy/trust ? I guess having two fans is a must, and having them moveable is even better.

Would putting the 2 external fans just below the 2 internal fans of the Blade be efficient ? Couldn't it "broke" or slow down the Blade internal fans ? (you know, imagine external fan going right, internal going left --> conflict --> failure).

Thanks for reading, and thanks in advance for your answers !

This has in fact happened in the past with other laptops.

Coolermaster U3 here, been happy with it. Design matches the Blade, fans are working well, and it raises my laptop (Pro) to a nice viewing angle. It was relatively cheap as well.

You have the 17" pro don't you? I'm not sure if the U3 will be too big for the 14 or would the U2 be a better fit?

Yup Pro, it fits fairly well already. Hmm, it will definitely be big for your RB 14, but i suspect that it'll only be big from the sides of the Blade, not really in the depth since the fans are customizable.

Is the U2 a smaller version of the U3? If it is, then that should definitely be better :)

Yup! The U3 has three, so I put two right below the fans and one in the middle of them. You have a valid concern with the conflicting airflow, but i don't seem to have noticed anything other than better cooling (I haven't had any experience of my Pro getting warm to the point that I can no longer touch it). Never felt warm either on the keyboard.

I think that there's a universal direction that laptop fans are meant to go and these laptop coolers abide by those standards. I think. =p

I think a U2 is smaller, but it only has 2 fans which should still be enough for the 2 intake vents on the bottom of blade. Does the U3 require an external power source or is it all usb powered?

Two fans should be sufficient, to be honest. I wouldn't be fussed if my U3 only had two.

Nope, it's all USB powered. It doesn't even really take up a USB slot since the usb from the U3 has an extention to it you can use as well (I think it defeats the Usb 3.0 purpose though). So I plug in my U3, then plug in my Naga to the U3 since it doesn't really need usb 3.0 speeds.

I use a Zalman NC3000 plugged in. In the winter I can't stand having it on at full speed, my hands got swollen last time.

I'm looking at the Zalman ZM-NC2500+ which supports a 2.5" HDD. It would eliminate the need for me to separately get a portable/external HDD for storage like I had originally intended to. I think I might get this or the U2...
