    Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum so bear with me.
Has anyone encountered the issue of the blade shutting down midgame? I have just gotten it 4 weeks ago from a retailer. It just powered down after about half hour of gaming. Subsequent attempt would only yield 5-10mins of gaming time. the power down means straight up black screen as if someone totally removed the power source.

Right after the shutdown, i am unable to start it up again immediately. I will either have to wait for several mins or unplug and reconnect the power source in order to start the laptop up again.

So far i have tried to play 2 games on my blade. Tera Online and Marvel Heroes 2015 and this happens for both games.

So with this happening, i went back to the store i got it from and did a 1 to 1 exchange on the spot. The same thing happened to the newly exchanged set. So what i am doing now is waiting for Razer to test a new set on their side in order to process an exchange for me.

I am totally lost as to what could be the problem. I have tried doing a recovery, updating all the windows and nvidia drivers, down scaling my screen resolution but to no avail. So now i am thinking if it could be a possible overheat? Although based on the temps i have observed from HWinfo, it is still under the acceptable range for both GPU and CPU.

Now feeling rather desperate, I am thinking of undervolting. Am i heading in the right direction? Anyone faced this problem and found a solution?

Acceptable range? What are your temperatures?

Have been getting between 85-95 for both GPU and CPU when i run my games.

    LOL.
Maxwell throttles somewhere around 87c, so if you're getting that, you're overheating like crazy.
As for the CPU... while technically your CPU will downclock at 95c and not crash... prolonged periods is probably overloading something on your PC. You're getting thermal shutdowns dude.

If I were you, I'd return that blade and get a more-tricked-out P650SE (or even P650SG with the money that blade costs). If you insist on sticking with that blade, I wish you luck... but you're probably going to need to do some cooling mods... most of which will invalidate your warranty, because the Blade is basically the Macbook of the windows gaming laptops.

The reason why you can't turn the laptop back on instantly is because when you thermally shut down the fans shut down too, so your parts are still hot as hell and need to let the heat dissipate naturally (without its fans). It's also why you shut down faster if you game right after, because it's still hot inside, and you basically force it back into its thermal shutdown state quicker than normal.

Ahh i see. wah i totally did not know >< my first gaming laptop hahaha. So i guess if i try undervolting, it should help i presume?

Haha i have no choice now. i'll have to sell it if im gonna change to the one u recommended because i alrdy blew the 1 to 1 exchange.

Undervolting only works for the CPU, and it's not a guaranteed thing. Also your BIOS is locked down as far as I know, so you probably don't have access to voltage adjustments. Because #Razer.

Maxwell GPUs (the current generation of nVidia GPUs we're on) cannot be undervolted. The reason for this is because their voltage tables have a HUGE range of voltages already for even their highest clockspeed. Let's say your card's base clock was 1000MHz (I know it's not). Your voltage range at 1000MHz for say... a Kepler card (like my 780M) would be 1.000v to 1.000v (no range). Your voltage range for your Maxwell card would be something like 0.910v to 1.102v (big range). When you undervolt, you simply add an offset to all the voltages in the range, and thus your minimum voltages get dangerously (crash-tastic) low. For this reason it's impossible to undervolt Maxwell GPUs, because they already do it themselves. It's the main reason why they draw so little "power".

Trust me, lots of people would love to grab a "new" Razer Blade for say... $100 off XD. (The poor saps)

Hmmm I understand what u are saying about maxwell but i was under the impression that the 2014 iteration is using a kepler 870m GPU?

Yes, but neither the 14" nor the 17" Razer Blade was ever designed to cool the 870M even if you used it in a freezer. Anyone who DOES use it either uses it lightly or knows exactly what they're doing/has a golden card. The only reason 970M cards are used right now is because Maxwell cards are extremely cool cards; 15+ degrees cooler sometimes than older Kepler variants, while being more powerful and using less power.
