Upgraded straight to 8.1 through Store, all went fine.

Probably worth noting that I always have the latest Windows updates installed.

But after a few hours of usage I noticed that sometimes when closing the lid it shut down, or it did no go into sleep, just stayed on. Also after this, it just did not turn on; only the keyboard went on, but nothing on the screen. I always had to force shutdown by holding the power button on. This is probably due to the fact that I had the latest beta nVidia dirvers installed.

After getting these issues I found this on Razer's website: http://dl.razerzone.com/master-guides/Blade142013/Windows_81_Upgrade_Guide_for_Razer_Blade142013_v1.3.pdf

It has clear instructions on how to update to 8.1 without any issues.

Even though I already installed 8.1, after following the steps there, I now have no issues with the new OS.

I even got the Start8 notification to update straight away! \ :D/

Did not get it to work at all, after following the steps one by one. There's a whole thread dedicated with hundreds of people experiencing the same issue. The way I see it, it's not worth upgrading till Microsoft figures their sh!t out.

    "Couldn't update to Windows 8.1 - 0xC1900101 - 0x40017" - Microsoft Community
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/windows-os-software/734943-failed-windows-8-1-upgrade.html

We know it's a driver problem, but I'm not sure which driver it is. Would honestly wait for Microsoft to come out with a fix, or Razer update us on what is needed to be disabled/uninstalled before proceeding because the even after following the guide, it still doesn't work.

No issue at all. I came from Windows 8 Pro though (as I upgraded the "basic" Windows 8 pre-installed). Now on Windows 8.1 Pro.

I followed Razer instruction on their website ( http://dl.razerzone.com/master-guid..._Upgrade_Guide_for_Razer_Blade142013_v1.3.pdf).

NB : don't uninstall Qualcomm/Killer Wifi drivers before downloading the new one ... as I did :D. Download the new one AFTER, or ... you won't have Wifi/Internet anymore !

Still haven't figured it out, razer wants me to completely wipe my drive to factory, then upgrade. Ugh...

Overall really not impressed by Razer ... had this notebook for 2 months, been 1 month in repair ... and now this ... This is usually when you realise that they put too much on marketing and not enough on dev ...

I had no issues at all upgrading to Windows 8.1. Easy as cake! I skipped the Killer Drivers though, as I am running an intel 7260ac WiFi card in my Blade 14". The 8.1 Drivers for that were easy to find also.

Lol, man I get your concerns regarding the 1 month in repair that definitely sucks...

But seriously getting Windows 8.1 as soon as it releases, and than blaming Razer because you had problems is just plain silly.

Common Sense and experience tells anyone who is even some-what tech savy, to avoid major patches such as 8.1 unless your willing to accept the risk of complications/bugs.

I still have not upgraded to 8.1, even though I am excited about some of the changes as I use my computer for work and can't afford any unreliability.

Well, I consider myself as tech savy, and have always updated my systems using major patches with few problems. Moreover, with Razer's officiel "installation guide", I don't know how it may get wrong.

If it bugs with no user mistakes, then I understand masterfred's concern. But I think errors are just minor.

I followed the update procedures on Razr's site and successfully upgraded my Blade 14" to Windows 8.1 a couple of days ago. Can't say I'm happy about the upgrade though. Performance when opening programs seem to lag a bit post upgrade. And Bluetooth isn't working correctly with my Plantronic Voyager Pro headset. It detects and pairs, but would disconnect 2 seconds after a connection is established. Frustrated!

Just a bit of advice to people who do the upgrade. Make sure you download the new Intel HD 4600 drivers from the Intel website. You'll need it to get the HDMI Audio working properly in 8.1.

    hey guys.

Dunno about you, but after upgrading to 8.1 i notice that, under normal usage, the laptop gets really worm in the middle, something that did not happen while in 8.

    56-65 C on the CPU and 45 - 50 C on the GPU

    Anyone noticed this?

I was so dissatisfied with the 8.1 upgrade I just did a factory restore back to 8.0 today. I followed the upgrade instructions and was initially ok with 8.1. But issues such as the increased heat, shortened battery life, slower performance, couldn't connect to my bluetooth headset etc. made the upgrade seem more of a downgrade. Granted, some of these items may only be a perceived degradation. But worst of all one of my bank's security applets doesn't work with 8.1. I'd get a BSOD everytime I try to login to online banking. That was the final draw for me and I ended up reverting to 8.0 and reinstalling all my programs.... a pain in the .

I'd say 8.1 is the worst OS upgrade ever!

Thank god for this information I thought I was the ONLY one having problems with a significantly reduced battery life when I upgraded to windows 8.1, Microsoft is such a failure these days I even wonder why Razer didn't allow the option for this laptop to ship with a windows 7 OS instead of this horrible failure that's windows 8.1

I upgraded to 8.1 as soon as I got mines, so I can't compare. However, my Blade seems perfectly fine. Battery life is roughly 5 hours for light wifi web surfing. (Based on losing around 25% battery after 1.5 hrs of surfing.) During idle, it usually sits at under 40C for the CPU temps.

I guess just make sure you are on latest drivers and run Windows update.

I have installed 8.1 Pro from scratch on my Blade R2 using the latest drivers from Intel and nVidia, and upgraded 8.0 to 8.1 on my Edge. Both are incapable of launching GeForce Experience properly. The Blade eventually starts but GE cannot optimize because it says my 660M isn't compatible. GE never starts on the Edge. If the biggest change is the pinned Start page. then I am going back to 8. I am not even going to try it on the 14" Blade.

Odd, GE works perfectly fine on my Blade 14" on Windows 8.1. This is from a factory reset to Windows 8, then updating to Windows 8.1 through the store after running Windows Update. I followed the guide posted by Razer for updating (basically, removing a bunch of drivers/apps they preinstall).
