The only thing that has me scratching my head are those temps

Although still hot, it's relatively cool compared to for example what LVNeptune or review sites put for the RB 2014.
How accurate do you guys thing the 2015 temps for Anandtech are? Did they not push it enough?

Great review, as usual. I have always loved and respected Anandtech.

It would be nice if they had the same heat map for the 2014 and 2013 so we can get a professional apples to apples comparison

Some very notable things they didn't have this time around (which their site usually has):
    1) picture of the insides of the laptop. Currently no review site has actually opened the laptop and shown a picture, which is interesting. I know AnandTech did this with the 2014 RB.
    2) No CPU temps. They only gave GPU temps, which we all know are a lot lower than CPU temps. Does this curious and very very vital omission mean anything..?

Yes, I'm interested to know whether the stock SSD is user-replaceable or (even better) if there is a spare M2 slot...

Battery life is encouraging, much better than the GS60 and better than the 2014 model Razer Blade

ssd is user replacable but there is no extra slot... there are 2 m.2 slots one for ssd and another for wifi card.. got it confirmed from a youtube reviewer who posted a review yesterday. So, bothered about voiding warranty by upgrading the stock ssd

Would changing the SSD void the warranty then? Guess you could always delay this for a year. What form factor SSD would fit? Might some M2 SSDs might be too long?

    Would this fit? http://www.mercateo.co.uk/p/2113-CT512M550SSD3/M550_SSD_512GB_mSATA_6Gb_s.html

This is the drive shown in this video for an SSD upgrade of the 2014 model:

I am not sure whether I can adjust with 128gb for a year... but still deciding btw msi gs60 -066, aorus x3 plus and razer blade. and what abt you. have you not considered msi and aorus?

and coming to ssd size according to anandtech review the ssd used is liteon l9h model which is 80mm/2280 model

Or, go for the 256Gb, then upgrade to 512Gb in a year. Could put the old 256Gb in an external housing for an extra high-speed drive

Yes, of course, but they all have they're pros and cons - MSI GS60 is really larger than I actually want, and I'm not a fan of having a numpad, battery life and build quality is also an issue. The Aorus looks good on paper, but the "boy racer" exhaust fans are not work-friendly, and build quality does not sound amazing

Okay, thanks, that's useful to know

Am also keeping an eye on this upcoming model from Asus, which looks very nice: http://rog.asus.com/399392015/g-ser...light-15-inch-gaming-laptop-with-4k-pcie-ssd/

Downsides (for me, anyway) are that it has a 15.6" screen and numpad (which I don't need), so will have a much larger footprint than the Razer Blade (though not as big as some 15.6" laptops), also sounds like it will have Nvidia 96xM graphics, not 970M, though I could maybe live with that, as I don't tend to play to the most demanding games (though needs to have enough power for Skyrim etc.), and would probably generate less heat and noise than the Blade. Also has a miniDisplay port and SD card slot. It's probably going to be available to buy direct in Europe too.

I may hold off on a decision until this is out, but the Razer Blade is tempting...

That Asus looks very promising and I've read it has a 96wh battery which could be great for battery life. I will test out the blade and return it if the G501 is better. I'm only reluctant because of the 960M being quite a lot weaker than the 970M. If I were in Europe, I'd definitely go with Asus though, much safer option. Especially with these delicately manufactured machines.

A 96W battery sounds great, the poor battery life in the GS60 is one of the things that's putting me off it.

I'm hoping the G501 will have at least a 965M, which is at least uses the same architecture (albeit cut down) as the 970/980M, unlike the 960M, which basically sounds like a modified 860M

The 980M, 970M and 965M are out, not sure about an other 9xxM GPUs. Maybe it will be the 965M, but they have had trouble getting hold of them?

From MarshallR on that Asus release:

This makes it sound like an entirely new offering.

Why is everyone always smashing the exhaust fans? I was at a training all week and not one person even realized this was a top of the line gaming laptop :p

Maybe I'm being unfair, I've yet to see an Auros X3 Plus "in the flesh". How's the general build quality and screen flex etc.?
