    2080S MaxQ Temps, what are you guys seeing?

    I booted up final fantasy 15 and got about 15 minutes into it before seeing my GPU temps climb into the 80s, which is danger zone. I had to drop GPU to "low" to get it to stay in the mid 70s. I've tried with liquid metal and IC graphite pad, both get into the 80C range when using GPU on "high". What temps are you guys seeing?

    I have the 2070S MaxQ and 10875H, the CPU gets to 95-98 constantly with a cooling pad and the GPU stays between 60-70 while playing Cold War on Ultra (90-120fps no Ray Tracing).

    I don’t believe an IC Graphite pad will work well on a direct die GPU or CPU. I had fairly bad results on my 2070 compared to even generic thermal paste.

    Any pictures of your liquid metal application? That should work well, but depending on application style and heat sink mounting pressure there can be issues. 80C+ on GPU is definitely unacceptable even after hours of use. I typically see 64-74C (depending on game) as peak temperatures from a 115W RTX 2070 using Kryonaut paste.

    my CPU temp is no problem, it sits in the mid 70s. GPU slowly climbs into the 80s, doesn't matter if its liquid metal or IC graphite. I use FFXV as a benchmark because its so notoriously heavy on CPU and GPU together

    If you don't have a RBA, its not really comparable since the thermal solution is different. IC graphite and liquid metal results very similar, within margin of error of each other on the GPU. For the CPU, it is no contest at all, it is required to use liquid metal to keep things under control. It's not my first rodeo with liquid metal either, my 2017 Razer Blade Pro has it applied on CPU and GPU, though the 1060 is a significantly lower power chip than the 2080S Max Q and it gets up to around 70-72C full load




    I appreciate you guys replying but I really need data points from users with 2080S MaxQ RBA systems.

    Ok so an inadvertent side effect of liquid metal on the CPU -> it dumps way too much heat into the vapor chamber, way too quickly. Since they are on a shared heatsink, it also proceeds to cook the GPU. I've had to turn off turbo on the CPU to keep temps in the 60s which keeps the GPU in the low 70s. I've never had to do this kind of balancing act before, the RBP 2017 were both relatively low powered components (7700HQ and GTX 1060) so this wasn't really ever a problem, and all my previous Alienwares always had separate heatsinks for CPU and GPU, so one would never saturate the other. However with the 2080S + 8 core CPU, it very quickly saturates the vapor chamber.

    The other interesting discovery: IC graphite pad works just as well as liquid metal on the GPU, which is in line with what I found to be true on the GTX 980M in my M18x. However, it is still completely unsuitable for taming the CPU.
