2020 Blade Advanced Bricked bios - desperate for help.

Hello - I'm really hoping I can get some help understanding what went wrong. Long story short this is my second attempt at simply enabling undervolt via BIOS on a Razer Blade 2020 Advanced (first machine was returned, and the replacement shipped with bios 1.04, temps were getting up to 96C)

I backed up my bios by extracting it using the programmer, made the modification (MOD 2) posted here by Gibber75 using using AMIBCP:

Went to reflash and kept getting a timeout message. Have since attempted a few more times with the original 1.04 bios - erasing and programming each time. Sometimes it works - gets to 100%, but the blade just wont boot at all.

I'm bitterly disappointed with myself thinking I could do this - I really dont want this to be a massive mistake. Title says it all - I really am desperate for some assistance - please can you help? I'd be grateful beyond measure...

 

I would unplug the laptop, disconnect the battery, and remove the CMOS battery. Press and hold the power button for 30-60 seconds to drain any residual power from the capacitors. Try reflashing the BIOS from your backup and reconnect everything. Had a similar issue that scared me, and ended up having to wait about 3-5 minutes before it finally showed the Razer logo and posted. Then rebooted and turned on again.

No luck with your suggestion unfortunately - I'm worried now that my original 1.04 BIOS may be corrupted - I can open it in AMIBCP5 ok, would there be something obvoius to see if it was corrupted?

 

It could be something as simple as the BIOS write not being successful or it could be corrupted. Are you using AsProgrammer?

Just used ASProgrammer to do the task. Took 3m 24 sec. And oh my lord, it worked - it booted!
Despite flashing my tweaked bios to allow undervolting, there are no options for that now within the BIOS - is it hidden somewhere?
Thanks so much for the suggestion to use ASProgrammer, I can breathe again!

 

That's the only way I got it to work. Glad it's fixed! Now for the fun part. Check the various threads I've participated in, there's a lot of good information. Took me about a week or two of lurking before I started making posts. Google and NotebookForms are amazing resources!

I think I've already scoured most of the threads already! As for the fun part, I think I'll leave well alone for a while until I get my confidence in my abilities back - I do wish I could undervolt again though, thats the only thing I'd like to do....hmm

 

I don't have a huge interest in overclocking memory, but my laptop runs hot (95+ with cooling pad plugged in) and so I got it just right so I can have the advanced settings in the BIOS and in Windows I can undervolt to keep it cool for better battery and better performing by less throttling. @Dwadd you have to look in to all of the bios modification posts, more specifically look at the thread that enables memory overclocking, and focus on the part that talks about extracting the menu binary file to edit all of the suppressed variables.

What worked for me was basically changing every single instance of suppressed variables to false, so they would actually be enabled. So now my bios has 1 million menus, but at least I can access all features. lol

Thankyou - it makes sense, but before I jump back in I'm going to try and find a suitable SOIC clip that doesn't need to be held in place during the read/write process. It just kept jumping off - i know the bios chip is quite close to the board but is there a recommended brand of clip?

 

@wireproof any chance you could hook me up with the stock or modded version of your BIOS? I have your same model and its bricked from a *factory* BIOS update and I'm trying to find an intact BIOS in case mine is corrupt or incomplete once my programmer arrives.

Anyway you can provide me the bin or hex file. Also why is there two bios files for the original bios? Not sure how to use the ROM file as the programmer wants bin or hex.

 

I managed to try As Programmer but looks like I need to unprotect the bios but its not working.

1. Tried AsProgrammer with bios file provided. Says its protected and when I run unprotect it doesnt do anything.
2. Managed to get the bin file from UEFI Tool and exported the ROM to BIn but trying in the CH341A Programmer it just fails out.

Appears my bios is protected and cant figure out how to unprotect it.

 

No need to trust other peoples BIOS dumps as the dump itself exists within the Razer Updater.exe - open it with 7zip and you'll see what I mean.
