2017 Razer Blade Pro 1080 Crash After Update

Hi All,

I recently ran the update on Razer's website for the Intel Spectre and Meltdown security and vulnerability issue.

Afterwards, my PC started to have behave abnormally and crash. Event viewer said The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.

I have undervolting via Throttlestop on -125mV Core and Cache. turned this off and restarted in case it was crashing the PC. The issues persist. Please note I have also repasted my CPU with liquid metal and repasted my GPU with thermal paste.

I tried to System Restore, but the laptop would stay on a black screen (with the green power notification LED pulsating slowly) I waited 10 minutes and the laptop would not come back. After a hard shutdown, the PC booted back into Windows stating the System Restore was unsuccessful and to try disabling AV.

I disabled BitDefender free and Malwarebytes, but was met with the same error.

I ran the Razer Factory restore and I get the same issues of the black screen with green power notification LED pulsating. I have been getting freezing during the Windows setup. After a few hard resets I can boot into a fresh copy of Windows, but the crashing persists. I can boot into Safe Mode with Networking. I haven't crashed in Safe Mode yet.

The system doesn't seem abnormally hot when it's crashing. I have a hwmonitor up during the crash and the temps are average for an RBP around 65C~.

Razer Support suggests sending in the laptop to see if they can flash me back to my original BIOS. I'm no longer under warranty which is why I went through with repasting.

Any suggestions? Is there any where to revert the Intel Spectre and Meltdown security and vulnerability update? I am now on Bios 3.02.

Update: Issue may have been resolved. May be an Nvidia driver issue. Uninstalled all Nvidia drivers and installed the driver from Razer's website. The PhysX driver was being stubborn so I had to remove that via the registry using Revo Uninstaller. Currently doing a Reset because I think there may have been some corruption due to the hard resets while setting up Windows.

 

When uninstalling Nvidia drivers it is best to use DDU and not necessarily Revo.

Worked on this again after taking a week or so off. I thought I had it stable when after another Factory reset via F9. Still not stable, despite what Nvidia drivers I used. There were times where the system would be able to stay on for 10+ minutes and others it would freeze instantly. I decided to open this laptop up again and re-do Liquid Metal on CPU and Thermal Paste on GPU. I also noticed some Liquid Metal had spilled off the electric tape and onto the board. I was able to clean up the spill with isopropyl alcohol. After re-doing the Liquid Metal and Thermal Paste, my temperatures have been good and I have not yet crashed. I have high hopes this issue has been resolved.

 

Might be a good idea to use a foam barrier, or something else, to prevent the LM from escaping onto on the motherboard.

I'll might have a crack at the foam barrier when I open up the laptop again. That's not a bad idea. No crashes so far. Temps are good, but I think they were lower prior re-paste.
