I posted this over at the Razer forums, but it's kinda crickets over there, so reposting here as well:

Hi all.. since info is so scarce for this version, and I haven't seen any professional reviews out there yet.. I'm hoping we could at least get some input from the current owners here.

Could current owners chime in and let us know how the display quality is? - Any issues like backlight bleeds, ghosting, uneven backlight, etc.. How are the viewing angles? Please provide photos/videos if you have available. I've just returned 2 Alienware 15s due to these issues, and I would really not like to go through the return process again. I'm hoping Razer has better quality control, and doesn't cheap out on their displays. We deserve a great panel for the prices these companies charge.

Could you also please post what your avg battery is like during normal use (web browsing, youtube viewing, etc.)?

Lastly, could you comment on the heat (keyboard area and bottom of the aluminim casing), or provide temperatures if you can?

If you guys find any other reviews out there for the 1080p version, please feel free to link here also.

To Razer - Are the 1080p versions only sold through your online store? Or will other retailers start getting them soon?

    Thank you!

And also one member here (Lauski) has the 1080p version. Maybe you can contact him/her directly for your questions.

Yeah I saw this last night and wanted to properly scrutinize it a bit more like you asked before providing some info.

So to begin, I'm not super picky about screens, and I'm not a professional photographer. I have though returned a laptop before because I didn't think it's screen wasn't up to snuff. (One of the first ASUS stealth-bomber style ones came with one where blacks were basically = gray). For this machine I went into it not even knowing what to expect: matte, IPS, glossy, black levels, etc... I just knew I wanted 1080p and crossed my fingers!

    Spec
LGD046D is the panel, but googling for you I didn't get much yet. It has a smooth matte finish that does a brilliant job of killing off reflections without any visible pixel distortion.

    Backlight
I'm not disappointed in the screen choice at all. It has been so good, I've not yet even cared to try to be "rough" on it by setting up a black desktop, etc. etc. I just did this for you in a completely dark room with screen at all levels of brightness -- there isn't any backlight bleed. If you really look for it I mean, maybe I can make out 1-2 slightly lighter areas around the edges, but by no means are the obvious or what I've seen when I feel like I've run into "backlight bleed".

    Viewing angle
On a completely black screen this may be normal, but shifting my head around reveals varying levels of black, but I'm talking barely. Try it on a monitor or laptop you have. You can sort of see the screen go slightly lighter gray, but I suspect this partially from the bright screen illuminating the room and that reflecting across the finish.

Otherwise, again, I'm just being really picky here for purposes of accuracy for you, so far, myself and everyone I've showed the laptop to, doing the standard viewing angle test during normal use have had nothing but good things to say! There's no adjusting the panel up/down to find that sweet spot before you play.

    Black Level
I've played a bunch of fast moving dark environment games already just by chance and like you've already heard, I have nothing but good things to say. Colors really pop, look deep and vibrant and blacks are great. I haven't noticed any ghosting and I will expect to see this panel get good numbers when it gets reviewed on notebookcheck. I'll scrutinize more for you next time I play something.

    Pics
Tried to take a pic to show you some color shift or backlight "light spots" but it doesn't do it justice on my HTC ONE. May try again later with SLR camera. We'll see about a video if I think it's helpful / correct.

    ...and a little bummer
This all being said, my display came with a light cyan dead pixel about 1/3 the way in & up from the bottom corner. I hoped at first it was a 'blue' stuck pixel, but no amount of unstick videos, tapping, rubbing have cured it... I think it's probably white (dead) and just has that slight blue look to it.

What kind of battery test do you want? If you give me a program you use for proper comparison and how high you want the brightness set, I can try to make that happen. Right now at full brightness and having been on it for almost an hour just browsing the web and typing this over coffee, windows says 82% left, 3hr 50min.

Heat, I can measure and have a gun at work, but that you can trust the reviews more online that you'e already seen. That won't be affected as much by the panel. It is hot to the touch but not in places your hands rest or type. Bottom gets toasty too, but I use a lapdesk.

thank you for that informative post! really helps in deciding with my purchase. actually, no battery testing program in mind. i actually prefer just gauging via normal day to day use.. like if you find it easy enough to get at least 5-6 hours just browsing the web and playing videos.

so far you and that guy who posted the youtube vid have commented that the 1080p panel is pretty good, and to me it sounds like a better quality than what Alienware is using, so i'm glad to hear this. now to just wait for my refund, and then finally decide which version to get. keep us posted on your fan issues though. that might be a deal breaker for me as well. thanks

No problem. I'll leave it running, screen on at work on Monday sitting on the WIFI @ medium brightness or some such then so you have a gauge.

I'm about to update my other thread... some more fan findings. Just got done testing.

That guy from YouTube has a decent amount of videos or so related to the 1080p Blade. I've really enjoyed his videos. He seems like a normal guy and I agree eith his line of thinking personally.
