That link is to a standard desktop 1/3rd height optical drive, not a slimline model. The desktop ODDs use 5V and 12V. The notebook ODDs are 5V only.

thanks for pointing that out, so it's regular ide.

The site says 1/3* standard 5.25" drive.. I see, 5.25" drives are 5.25" width, 1.5" height. I do have a small slimide drive that is 0.5" (about 1cm) height. So that small drive would be 1/3 height too.

Given that that link is regular ide, and callsitself slimline. Is it possible that the link was right though
Maybe slimline has nothing - necessarily- to do with the interface. ?

This link refers to small computer cases with slimline expansion/drive bays in third and half height.

no doubt that has nothing to do with whether the drive is SLIMIDE or IDE, though the case manufacturers/marketers may have kind of presumed IDE

indeed.. most slimide are slimline, vice versa. But maybe that link was right, and that drive is correctly referred to as slimline.

btw, I noticed a link to a usb enclosure that refers to a slimline of claimed 0.7" height. I guess that's 0.75", so, half height. I guess those are prob the only sizes slimline come in, third height(0.5") or half height(0.75").

are there any other slimline regular ide drives online , like in that link -
i'm wondering if maybe that link got it wrong in the sense that it was a slimide drive, no 12v. ?

    TIA
