I just bought an old laptop off ebay which appears to be in really really good condition but i cant get it to boot off a disk.
Sometimes it freezes in the bios in fact it seems to be freezing everytime i put a disk in it and other times it lets me go into the bios settings where it says disk/cd boot is priority followed by hdd and when i put the linux or wind xp disk in.... it freezes the disk spins and sounds like its loading then stops.
I also cannot figure out how to open the case properly so i can try to replace the old ty celeron cpu with a better core2duo cpu. On my old laptop you just unscrewed a cover and there it was under the heat sink but on this it has no cover for the cpu only ram and wireless modual, i tried unscrewing all the screws but the whole bottom cover would not come off.

Is the cpu under that metal sheet beneath the keyboard? how do i remove the keyboard without braking it.

Can you provide more specs ?
-
Yes the original specs in the laptop were an intel celeron cpu 1.46Ghz (from bios)
512mb ram, i removed that and add 1 gb.
No hdd but ill be adding a 250gb hdd in a few days and i think its got an amd 1100 gpu but not sure as that doesnt show in the bios and only has a sticker on it but from the specs of the old argo c1 it is an 1100.
15.6inch glossy screen.
Also tried taking it apart seems packard bell are ***** and made it as hard as possible to get to the cpu for some reason, you have to taker the entire case off and remove the motherboard to get to it, i got the case apart but couldn't release some of the cables attached to the motherboard without risking damage so i stopped and stuck it back together. My old laptop had a nice port that you could just unscrew to get to the ram, cpu,gpu hdd ect....god i wish there were an easier way. -

hmm ... If you know the CPU model you can figure out what socket it uses and technically you can use the fastest CPU that laptop could come with in any of its configuration "to avoid bios editing fuss" that matches the same socket

hmmm, keeps freezing sometimes during the bios, other times while im trying to have it boot a linux or windows disk, what could be the problem?
-
Well it finally started booting from disk and when i got to the linux install screen i did some very dumb and attached the hdd when it was on and it flicked off and now wont turn on/power up or even charge. F**************************K
