I bought an Averatec 3225 yesterday and had wrongly assumed that microsoft works had microsoft word, excell, etc. I have a friend who works at Microsoft games so he orded me a copy of microsoft office cheap. I decided to checkout the microsoft works stuff and outword appearances make it appear that they are the same programs with diffent names (eg. micro. works spreadsheet). Does anyone know if they are the same or if I should still get microsoft office.

    Thanks

Microsoft works is fine to use, but like you said it is:
    Word Processor VS Word
    Spreadsheet VS Excel

Basically the Microsoft Office programs have more features for those that need them. Office is more robust, but at a high cost.

You can buy Microsoft Works Suite which Includes Microsoft Works and Microsoft Word (No Excel or PowerPoint though). Here is a link for it:

Also check out free office programs like:

oh yeah powerpoint I forgot that one, I do need that and probably the full versions so I guess office is worth it. I think my friend got me the professional version it's $50 with shipping. The other version was $40.

Thanks for the links. I have to figure out how to connect the laptop to the internet...

Would your friend be willing to get me an inexpensive copy of Office?
