Having read the copious positive reviews of P1's products and service, I am seriously considering buying from the company (what describes it exactly? it's not really an OEM... yet it's not really Lenovo/Apple/Fujitsu/etc...)

I have one reservation though: For a long time now, I've been mulling over the R- and T-series ThinkPads, the only reasons being its build quality and "legendary" keyboard. P1 definitely sells well-built and tested products (and backs them with a generous warranty), so my first concern is covered. But what about the keyboard? Which of P1's notebooks have keyboards that produces the same deep keystrokes and travel like those on the T60s?

As I am planning to use this notebook for the next 4-5 years, keyboard comfort (relative to its desktop counterpart) is a must, for me.

Thanks in advance for your responses!

I can't comment on the differences between the different keyboards, but I can tell you that I am very impressed with the keyboard on last year's UX, which is a modified Asus machine. I have never been a fan of keyboards on the smaller machines and would never have purchased one for my own use. I bought it for my daughter who needed a very portable unit. That said, I did all the set-up of the machine and was very surprised at how comfortable the keyboard was to use.

I also set up my friend's T60 and my other daughter's T42 a few years back. The tactile feel is a little different but I wouldn't say that it was better than the UX. The screen on the UX, IMHO, was far superior, btw. The UX's keyboard is well-sized, esp. for a small machine, well laid out and has a solid feel.

If you want relative differences between the different keyboards I would recommend calling P1 and talking to Ivan or Patrick. They are very knowledgeable and honest about their products and can help you select what will be best for your needs. I would heed their recommendations...I made the regrettable mistake of not listening to Ivan initially and selecting a Fujitsu model (they used to be the largest NA distributor of Fujitsus) over the UX and the build quality and relaibility were awful. If I had gone with the UX in the first place I would have saved over 3 months of aggravation (no fault of
P1's- as a matter of fact, they arranged for a return/refund from Fujitsu so their customer service couldn't have been better). Let them know what your needs are and they will make the appropriate recommendations. This is one company you can feel comfortable trusting!!
