Hi.
I saw this notebook, from a brand I have never heard of, so I just want to make sure it is good! Who makes it? Is it a Compal? Or who is the ODM?
Thank you.
Nick.

It's is a good notebook for study/wordprocessing.
The ODM is Inventec, but I know of no one else that sells this barebone than us. -

See the link below for my review. It is made by Inventec.
I bought one because I wanted 1440 x 900 @ 14.1" and Dell couldn't deliver quickly. If I were buying the same spec now I would watch Dell Outlet until a suitable D630 appeared.
Probably the biggest complaint about the 6024W is the keyboard (which is the same as on the more popular 6224W and 6234W).
And, whereas I received my 6024W in 24 hours from being shipped, Zepto have now moved to a 3 day UPS service.

Thanks, John you know my opinion on Hell. I mean Dell.
Why buy something that will go to a repair center and come back worse off? Damaged? Faulty parts? No surprise they are no longer world's #1.
And why ring them to find they are taking my call in a different continent?
Dell sucks. -

Personally, I'm not against having the call centres in another continent provided there are no language problems. One benefit is that the lower costs mean that you are more likely to have the phone answered quickly.
Dell's next day on-site maintenance is the way to avoid your other problem. With Zepto it's return to base and that's more than a week in travel time alone.

Well I have had a lot of problems with Indian call centers, and understandig them is the worst part.
D€LL, you have you buy something extra to get good service. I can't say anything on Zepto. But at least it won't come back damaged. -
I bought a 6024W back in November-ish, and have mainly been running Ubuntu on it, but also have a XP partition.
After I updated the BIOS it have run without any problem, except the sound on the Ubuntu that doesn't work - but thats more my fault.
The only thing I'm missing is more power on the graphic part, but if you don't need to work with graphic heavy tools, then its spot on.
As John Ratsey also notes in his review the battery is loosing power somewhat fast, but I having really been testing the precise correlation.
Unlike John Ratsey I don't think the keyboard is an issue, but I have not been using the inbuilt keyboard that much since I mainly use a stand when I work for a longer period (see here)
Cheers
