    Hi,
I have been having a problem with my integrated cam since some days. It used to work well but now it no longer works cause it is recognized by windows as an unkown device (in usb controller devices). I have tried to delete then restart, reinstall driver, restore from a restore point,...but nothing to do it is still recognize as unkown and don't want to recognize it the way it should....
    Some one could help me??
I have Compal Hel80 with latest bios winXP PRO SP2 with all the updates (I suspect the updates to have put troubles because the webcam worked well before I do all the updates required)

Doesn't your vendor provide you with 24/7 technical support? Try giving them a call. You paid for that support when you bought it...you might as well use it to get expert help.

Go to the Camera Folder on the HEL80 driver CD > Open the BISON folder > Try running "setup.bat" to install webcam driver, and then reboot the laptop.

    Thanks for reply.
The problem is that I have already tested it (I am on XP PRO). XP don't want to detect the integrated webcam properly. It is detected as unkown and when I try to point the folder where the software extracts the drivers it says there is no driver for the device.

The symptom sounds just like when I had a broken USB stick. Just as it became 'shot' due to some unknown reason, I could never get around to have it properly recognized by any PC again. Unknown device, cannot install drivers, etc.

I don't mean any discouragement by saying this, but it maybe possible that the problem lies within the hardware, not in the OS or any programs.

How are you trying to install the web cam driver? (Device Manager or by running the setup program that came with the driver) Also which driver version are you trying to install?

I have already tested both but I only manage to install the software because when I try manually it says there is no driver for the device (even if i point the folder where the software is supposed to put the correct .inf)
I have already tested a lot of different drivers.

Thanks but it is still detected as unknown peripheral. I think it is because when you install a usb device you must install then plug but in this case the cam can't be unplug :(

It is too bad that windows don't want to recognize my integrated camera as an "integrated camera" even if i install the different softwares packages. It is still recognize at unkown. It used to work well but since some update it stopped working suddenly. It is detected as unknow and tell me there is no driver for the device when I try to manually install it.. :( :( :(

Rockblaster13 to the rescue :) (Hopefully hehe)

Let's try this to fix your webcam issue.
Im pretty sure this will work.
Try flashing your HEL80 Bios to either 114B or 116B.
And than try to reinstall the webcam drivers.
Let me know if this works or not.
    Good Luck :)

Now I am even more certain flashing to Bios 114B or 116B will fix your problem
I got the same problem as you on Bios 121B but not with my webcam but with my fingerprint reader instead.

I am now on Bios 114B and everything is working great.

    Ok hmm

    Steps you have already done:
    1. Flashed to another bios - Did not work
    2. Tried different drivers - Did not work
    3. Reinstalling drivers - Did not work

I would reformat the laptop and install windows back.

If someone has another idea on how to fix flashmp3's webcam please post.

    Thanks for your help.
I have tried to delete driver and software before flashing so that windows could recognize it but it detected as unknown. I don't understand why where I choose my .inf file it sayt there is no driver for the device. I remember with WIN98SE that you could put the driver you wanted for the device you wanted. (For example a graphic card driver of matrox mystic for a matrox G200 millienium). It is as if the option to manually choose the driver had become useless :(

You should be able to select the driver manually by going to Control Panel -> System -> Hardware Tab -> Device Manager -> Right clicking on the unknown device and clicking Update Driver -> then install from a specific location. If you install the drivers like this you should be able to pick the driver you want to use manually.

That is exactly what I did but when I point the driver it says there is no driver for the device...It is as if the .inf of the camera driver wasn't good...
