Moving this thread over to here because it *could* be a Zepto BIOS / 163.44 driver issue:
Hey,
I recently installed the 163.44 drivers from laptopvideo2go for my 8600M GT, the install went perfectly fine using the have disk method and replacing the inf file.
The gaming performance is great and every game works and plays smoothly
However I notice that after a while I cannot play any media files in Windows Media Player nor VLC media player. Right after driver install all media playback works fine, but after a while, after a couple of restarts or whatever it just stops working. Albeit gaming still is perfect.
WMP just shows a black screen with the mouse and hourglass as if its waiting to load the media, but after a while system freezes and have to restart manually.
VLC does the same thing, shows a black screen, the progress bar moves and audio of the media is hearable but after a while system freezes and have to restart manually.
In the web wmp video files cause the browser to freeze and hence sytem to freeze, flash files play just fine.
I then reinstall the 163.44 drivers and everything works fine and after a while it stops working, this cycle continues on
Why is this, does any one know and what can I do to remedy it?

Hi
I have noticed the exact same problem. I have a Zepto 6224WD.
I have narrowed it down to XviD videos. I am not sure if it is the driver, or the new BIOS which I installed - 005e.
If you install the CCCP codec pack, and then take a look at the settings, you should be able to disable FFDShow Video Decoders. If you are trying to watch a DivX video, then disable DivX in there and it should now work.
However, I can't get it working with XviD. Which is annoying considering the vast majority of my videos are in that format.
Any ideas? -
I am using the same drivers and I have noticed no such problem. I am still running the old BIOS so it's quite possible that the BIOS update is responsible.
-
Hehe I posted that,
I am running bios -008, the latest one on the ftp website
Anyway GOM player which has built in codecs for everything works flawlessly with the 163.44 drivers.
Although its a pitty VLC, my fav player doesnt work and niether does WMP 11 for watching dvds.
However GOM player looks brilliant, better than both I think so yea I guess we have to wait for a driver update from laptopvideo2go.com, since their other drivers did not cause this problem.
EDIT:
Scratch the gom player working flawlessly, it now gives a "....has encountered an error and needs to close" everytime when trying to open a file.
However VLC player now works flawlessly, WTF??
WMP still does the same -
Hi y'all. I own a znote 3415W and i am experiencing the exact same problems with video playback. It works with the 163.44 driver recently installed, but dies after a while. A solution to this problem would be great!
Cheers -

As 3415W (Compal) and 6224W/6625WD (Inventec) are not produced by the same ODM it should not be a BIOS/machine problem but a software problem.
-
But cant really identify which software problem is causing this since I reinstalled wmp and all the codecs after driver install -
Yeah, I just installed GOM player which is ace and gets around the problem.
So, problem exists but I don't know what it is...... -
I'm experiencing the exact same problem with the 163.44 driver on a 6224w, originally I just thought it was an issue with codecs in conflict, but I duno anymore...
-
This is a general bug with 163.44 I think. I'm having the same problem, but only when trying to play videos with the default video renderer. I use media player classic, and when I use VMR 9 renderless every video works perfectly (that's what I use normally anyway, I just encountered this problem while trying VLC). Remember that 163.44 are beta after all.
-
I confirm. Just rolled from 163.44 to 162.12 and all the videos play smoothly on any player.
-
Has anyone managed to fix this problem yet? I see that 165.01 is now available for XP 32bit - anyone got any experience of this driver?
-
eeperman have a read at the post before yours
I am on vista now and dont have any of these problems any more with no matter what driver -
Blackbird, thanks. I was really hoping for a more advanced driver, especially since 163.44 was developed specially for Bioshock which I am playing avidly. Not sure I want to risk slowing that game down.
Always trying to move forward.... -
I haven't tested them fully yet, so i'm not completely sure if it moves everything forward -
Thanks, might give them a try. This video playback problem is driving me nuts - I keep getting ambushed by pages that have Media Player embedded...
-
Awsome, no more video problems with the latest drivers 163.69 under XP 32bits ! CPU usage is also lower when reading HD videos with WinDVD.
-
I have also installed 163.69 and have no problems with video playback so far.
