Half this forum is covered in threads about the IFL90, but hardly anything about the IFT00.

So, is there any new news about the IFT00? Anything not mentioned on the Xotic PC site ( http://www.xoticpc.com/product_info.php/cPath/95_51_173/products_id/1984)? Any idea when it's going to be available?

Am I the only person looking forward to this release? There seems to be hardly any hype about it. I mean, to me, it's perfect except for the WXGA screen. I'd prefer at least WXGA+ much more. I also don't need an HD DVD drive, that's for sure. But otherwise, the IFT00 is looking pretty solid for a 14" machine.

I would be excited, but I'm getting a T61. If the T61 is really awful (which some claim it is... I think they're just jealous :D) the IFT00 is next on my list. Then comes the D630.

I want that guy with the funny avatar from Xotic PC to post something here with another smiley. That would make my day :)

Well, alot of people lost interest when it was decided twhat the IFT00 won't (most probably) have anything better than a 8400mGT/8600mGS card. If you want a 14.1" gaming laptop, get the Zepto Znote 6224W.

Edit: As far as I know, it's unconfirmed whether Compal will even release the IFT00 in the U.S.

Well, I wanted the T61p, but some days it feels like vaporware. Plus, I really was hoping for a widescreen 14" (these days, 4:3 just looks strange on laptops). In any case, I don't need heavy gaming gear. The 8600mGS or the Quadro 570m are both good enough for me. I am considering a Znote 6224W, anyway.

Not being released in the US won't stop me from wanting it or even getting it. Hell, I live in the US but I know that I can get the 6224W.

Y'know the T61 is out right now with the Nvidia 140m and in widescreen (WXGA+ I believe). Getting a widescreen isn't the issue these days; it's getting a 4:3 that is.

Well, this UK site finally has it up for order, although it is the white version. The one I configured said shipping date will be July 3rd.

8400M GS 256MB. Not terrible, but not great. I'll be honest, I am still interested.

So basically other than the Zepto 6224 there's no such thing as a 14.1" with anything better than a 8400GT/GS?

Donald, let me say that that is AWESOME news!

Only problem is that this is only going to come with the 8400 at best right? :-(.

Maaaaaaaaan, I really want a 14.1 inch with more solid graphics than the 8400 series. And there is no possible way I can get the Zepto, even if I didn't have to pay hordes to get it to the US, I need it to be supported because its going to be a college lappie and I dont want to have to worry about it being down when I find time to fix it.

yes, that is great news. Hopefully it won't have the 8400m.

Imagine a 14inch lappy with 8600mGT(GS even) would be amazing :D :D :D :D :D :D and it would probably be my choice for my next laptop(its time for a new laptop for me :) .

As you can tell by my sig, my laptop is pretty old :)

Ok, I'm not going to feel bad and be happy with my IFL90 when it comes weeks ahead of when I could have gotten a IFL00. The graphics are more than I need, but the higher screen resolution is important to me.

I like the smaller size and weight though!

There's the IFT00. I've heard some people mentioning IFL00. is there is difference or are they just typo's?

I'm glad to hear that I'll be able to get the IFT00 soon, even with the 8400 GS. I still wish that it had a higher resolution screen, but I suppose I'll survive.

    Very good news Donald!

I'm bummed about the 8400GS, too... It's such a buzzkill, I feel like I should go with the just the IFT01/integrated gfx for that battery life and what not, now :(

Not being able to get the 14.1" 8600 GT IFT00 will force me to reconsider exactly what I want out of my laptop... If I have to pass up on graphics and gaming, I might want to go the ultraportable route and keep an extra monitor in my dorm for word processing so my eyes don't strain looking at a 12" screen or something :p

Edit: Would it be reasonable to hope for a IFT00 to ship to me by July 20th? Or am I looking at August, even.

If the IFT00 comes out with the 8600m GS, i'd buy it on the spot.

The 8400m makes my choice a bit shady tho :/

    Hey,

How's the speaker quality on the IFT00? Anyone any suggestions as to how it compares to say EL80 ?

I have an EL80 now, and similarly to IFL90/FL90/HEL80, it has it's speakers in front under the palmrests. They are VERY good quality for my needs, hell, not even only for my needs, they're just VERY good in general.

I'm wondering tho about IFT00/HGL80, both these lines seem to have the speakers on the sides of the keyboard?

That would mean you can't really play music with the lid closed.. that's bearable, but, how about the quality of sound? Is it much worse compared to the EL80/HEL80/IFL90/FL90 ? With opened lid ofcourse ;)

    Cheers,

    //m.

Also, do we know anything about how batteries will configure for the IFT00?

Will a 6 cell and 9 cell both be available and both work on the IFT00? Or will only a 6 cell/9 cell alone be available? Ideally, I would like to have both a 6 and 9 cell battery that both worked on the notebook.

Hehe, I'm excited.. already looking into laptop bags now. I found a briefcase one that I like(the Tom Bihn Zephyr), but I doubt a briefcase will be useful for lugging a laptop around campus.

Early word...subject to change...the video card will be the 8400 w/256MB.

Both batteries will be available for it.

ETA is late July to Early August.

Dang, that's not really any better than the Dell M1330 then. A bit worse because it's bigger and has no LED screen. I might have to end up getting the Znote after all.

That's about $1200, right? That's what I expect the base price of the M1330 to be. Of course the M1330 will be more with a SSD and an LED screen, but those aren't even options on the IFT00, I don't think.

It is 1200$ but the US price without tax should be under 1000$. We have 19% tax here which is included in the 900€ price.

And I dont think the M1330 will be close to that price.

Even still, at base configuration the XPS is smaller, thinner, and lighter, which in my mind makes up for the $150-$200 dollars. Plus the XPS line is usually more durable than the Compals'.

The IFT00 is more comparable to the Dell 1420.

Nothing is known about the M1330 priceing. So time will tell. Dont think you will get a LED screen for under 1600$ but that is just my opinion. SSD? add another 200$ minimum.

I don't have any proof, if that's what you mean. But I've used both the HGL and the HEL lines extensively, and in my opinion neither were as sturdy as the XPS M1210 (though of course it's possible that the M1330, being thinner, won't be as sturdy as the M1210 either.) I know compal builds many dells, but in my opinion their whitebooks fall somewhere between the Dell Inspiron series and the HP Pavilion series in terms of build quality, with the XPS line being better than all three. Understand, I'm not trying to trash the Compals, it's just that my personal preference, based on experience, leans toward the XPS line. Other people may feel differently, of course.

Of course. I wasn't planning on getting either the SSD or the LED screen, I was just saying they were options, which is nice. I know they'll be out of my budget, though.

Interesting. I would have thought a notebook manufacturer would sell the better made products under its own name to attract more customers (both consumers and other companies). In any case, smaller notebooks are always less prone to phenomena like flexing, etc, simply because of the size (consider the leverage, too).

It seems to be pretty comparable to the Asus A8Sc, Dell Inspiron 1420 and Vostro 1400, and HP dv2500t. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to offer anything special in terms of hardware.....Nice to know its coming here though!

I would probably add the Lenovo T61(p) and the forthcoming Asus F8 & V2s to that group, as well. What is the Vostro 1400?
