I've an IFL90 with XP Pro + SP2. This laptop is about 5 months. The problem starts on Windows startup. Sometimes, when I turn on my computer, before show Windows logo, the system crash and the laptop shows and strange image on screen. My IFL90 went to Compal manufactured (because it's on warranty) and they update my Bios from 1.10 version to 1.13. The system worked correct but, one month later, the system crash again. The vendor (who provides me the computer) told me that the problem is and incorrect activation of ACPI Bios wasn't load correctly. My laptop is now on Compal Tech Support (it's the third time that it goes).
Somebody can tell where is the problem?
It's possible to change this laptop for a new one¿? (The same serial ÌFL90, or IFL91, IFTx)
Thanks a lot,
torres.

This is a very strange issue indeed, it looks like it doesn't even pass the POST, may be you have a problem with the battery or the power supply.
-
BTW, can you describe the image on the screen?
-
Hi, Wirelessman: I thinked too that the problem is in Battery or in AC/DC supply. But I thing it's not possible because the computer works fine with Battery and AC/DC converter . The screen shows and strange lines composed with some colors or more lines (i think it's lines) in more colors (Is the same Like letters in matrix movie intro, the letters go down suddently) And I can't reboot. To reboot I must unplug the AC Converter or take out the Battery. This error take time only when Windows start (but Windows logo isn't showed yet, so I thing it's hardware problem).

Then it could be that your display wasn't installed properly the last time they worked on it, perhaps the screen cable is not pluged conrrectly, check it out.
-
I think it's a problem ofthe Motherboard - my friend had the same problem - after Mainbaord change everything works fine
-
Who did you buy the laptop from?
-
I bought this computer in an Spanish computer's shop.
1. The IFL90's main motherboard, what kind of motherb. is?
2. The IFL90, has any clonic computer of a Big manufacture (like toshiba, hp,fujitsu, dell...) ? I think so, because Compal is the 2nd wordlwide manufacture of laptops... But I don't know certenly.
Thanks a lot, -
DELL uses Compal, I think Toshiba uses Compaq, and even HP I believe uses Compal.
-
You can lift you touch sensative strip, this is located just above the keyboard.
On the left side you can then see the cables for the screen connected to your motherboard, when you power the notebook and get the lines try to push the cable and or pull them be carefull.
YOu can also open the notebook and reconnect the cabels to verify the issue yourself.
Check this link for further assistance this guide is very helpfull.

Thanks, I tried this, ReParaQu, but now the laptop is on Compal's Tech Supp. I expect that when they return my laptop it'll work fine, because it's not a bad laptop (I think so).
One more cuestion, I've read the post about IFL90 and Penryn and I'm not sure if my laptop 'll be support Penryn processor... How can I know this?
Some info:
IFL90 - T7250 (running 2.00Ghz) - 15.4" WSXGA - 160 GB - 2 GB RAM - FP, TV, XP (for the meoment) -
This is a very, very, very a too long story, you better ask your vendor, he will tell you the straight answer, plus they might install the Penryn while is in their position if the mobo qualifies for it.

ReparaQu, What's exactly the Question????
I can't tried nothing because I don't have the laptop (it's on Supp. Tech since 3 weeks ago). -
I think he is referring to the previous question.
-
@Wirelessman
Correct I was reffering to this line from TORRES:
Thanks, I tried this, ReParaQu, but now the laptop is on Compal's Tech Supp
@TORRES
I was wondering have i caused the issue, becase you posted this:
Thanks, I tried this, ReParaQu, but now the laptop is on Compal's Tech Supp -
@TORRES: Please let us know what was the problem and how was fixed when you get your laptop back, other NBR will appreciate your experience.
-
@TORRES, just inform us about the solution/fix.
-
Ok! I'll inform to all when I get the laptop.
-
Thank you!
-
Hey Guys!
I've my Compal with me, again.
The told me that the issue is probabbly due that I start the system with AC and no with Battery, and it's possible that santa rosa's find the battery at ACPI start and as it's no founded the system crash.
Possible Solution --> Install Vista, because IFL90 it's designed for it.
I'll try this... -
Very interesting, this is a BIOS issue I believe, what is your BIOS version?
-
My Bios version is currently 1.13. The laptop is in warranty so I'm not sure to update the bios to 1.16 version.... ¿What do u think? I'll try to run Vista. I think that computers works best n?
-
Nothing prevent you from doing so, but it's at your risk. However if things go wrong, which I doubt it, just flash the 1.13 again, that's all.
-
I think that some people have the 1.16 version in IFL90, ¿I'm correct?
This release of Bios are officialy launched and recognised by Compal??? Is stable? -
That's what I haave, I used to have 1.10 but I upgraded to 1.16 and everything is just fine. I didn't have any problems when I flashed the BIOS, I just did it thinking that updates take care of issues that I haven't encountered yet because I'm not using applications that others do, or because I don't have some parts that others do, which I might have in the future.
-
What Kin of applicacions do you use? Office, Msn, Internet, Finger Print, TV?????
However you can back to 1.1x on the future, n? -
Ok. I'm now running Vista and 1.16 BIOS. seems normaly.
-
Great, welcome to the club!
I have vista business (VB), and I only run business applications including MS office. I do play Chessmaster when I have time, which is almost never -
Yeps I've V.U (Vista Ultimate), Office, Web, MSN, and something video editing. jejeje thanks for your welcome. I'll informe if any issue 'll be produced.
-
VU is good, especially for media applications, VB doesn't support the internal TV tuner as I understand, but I don't care, I don't watch TV on my laptop as I don't check my e-mails on my TV

Problems with IFL90 and VISTA!!!!
WhenI try to install the CAM (is a Chicony 2.0 USB integrated) Windows tell me that the requierd section in INF is not avaiable (or something like this) and don't install it. I see in other forums that other users have the same problem, but, How I can solve it in Vista and Compal?
Thansk -
Isn't it already detected by Vista? I remember being able to use it before installing the drivers. I installed them anyway only because I it was sitting in the the driver cd -_-...
-
Hi Ayle,
Isn't it already detected by Vista? I remember being able to use it before installing the drivers.
Yes, It detected by Vista but I can't install de driver. I downloaded the Drivers from Compal's webpage and Bizcom's wp. -
http://www.compal.com/asp/driver_dnd/index.htm -
Hey Guys,
Finally doesn't work. So I installed Windows XP again.
And...... ¡¡surprise!! I've the same screen, and the same problem too. I'm very disgusted with this laptop.
I want to change it for another one.... ¿What can I do? It's in Warranty.
TORRES -
Change it!
-
Yes but, ¿how? If laptop is in warranty I'm allowed to request a new one?????
and another question. The Bios update from 1.13 (installed by vendor) to 1.16 (installed by me) will don't avoid the warranty?
In this case, how I can return to my 1.13 Bios?
Thankssssss -
How long you have it?
No, a new BIOS doesn't void your warranty at all, just don't mention it. Just if you open the laptop then your warranty would be at fault. -
Oks!!
My laptop was shopped in October 08, So, just 6 month. And tomorrow will be the 5th time that I carry it to the vendor for repair.
I'll told to the vendor that I want another IFL90 (the same, but new) and I'll be happy. Or superior model (IFT...) but I think It's not possible.
For one hand, this solution, or on the other hand, I ask if they will change IFL90 for another laptop of another trademark (like toshiba, dell...) but I think it's no possible too.
What U do think? -
Read your warranty, some states that they will exchange it for a new one within 3 months, but after they will either repair it or give you a refurbished one.
What issues made you send the laptop 5 times? Are they paying for the S&H each time? -
I sent the laptop for 5 times due to the same problem (the Strange screen) What's is "S&H"????
-
Shipping and Handling.
Return it and friendly but firmly request that they give you a new laptop. -
I contact the vendor, this morning.
Solution --> My compals goes to Tech Service and they'll change the MoBo. I'll try to get a new IFL90 MOBO, with support to Penryn, etc.
I'll inform you when I get the "new" laptop. ("newn" only in the "in" ajjaaj) -
That's sound good, it is a good idea to get a mobo that supports the Penryn, I think is the minimum they can do for having you putting up for so long with this problem.
-
Yeah!
I think this so, in one week (more or less) I'll tell you what about my new compal XD
