Does anyone have info/websites/manuals for replacing the hard drive in a four year old Sharp Actius MV 12 laptop? Or is it even worth it? A repair shop checked it out and told me the hard drive was shot. I have since bought a Toshiba Satellite for less money than I paid for the used Sharp. The Sharp was great while it worked. I bought it used and it lasted 4 months. From this experience I will never ever again pay good money for used computer equipment.

Hard drive removal update: With the help and ideas of my computer savy neighbor, we removed five screws from the back of the computer; four from the battery receptacle area and one from under the left palm rest area. The palm rest case area then lifted off the top and there was the hard drive right under where you would place/rest your left hand. The hard drive was a standard Toshiba 2.5 inch unit with a standard IDE connector. The HD was in a cradle that several web sites I visiited said would be the holder for the HD. I ordered a new 40 gig Toshiba form UpgradeSolutions.com which had a special promotion unit for sale for $43 bucks. 40 gig units were running anywhere from $45 to $60 or so. I should get the new unit by the end of the week and will post an update of my adventure.

    Final Update:

My new Toshiba HD came in and we installed it. Booted up the computer, went through the initial Q & A, put recovery discs in the disc reader, and the computer is now up and running, just like brand new. The biggest pain was getting all the updates, to include SP 2 and its updates. I figured it couldn't be that hard and it wasn't.

Correction on screw removal: Four screws were from under the left palm rest area and only one was from the battery area. Got it backwards in my orignal post.
