When I tried to upgrade the laptop with a 1080p panel, I forgot to remove the battery ( dumb yes), when inserting the LVDS cable i saw a spark on the connector which reminded me of the battery.
Quickly removed cable and took out battery and discharged laptop.
I hoped nothing happened, but upon bootup I only get a black screen and I can see the led backlight working, but no picture at all. Laptop itself boots
to windows fine, as I can hear it do so. I tried the old screen, but it's the same thing.
It also works fine on hdmi and vga out.
So is my gfx card screwed? or is only the LVDS cable busted.
If so, where could I buy a replacement one.
    Googling it yielded no info.

Guess its the LVDS cable then, since there is no inverter on it.
Now I have the problem of actually finding such a cable.
    Are there universal ones?

Anyone that has an idea where i can get such a cable?
Hate to see an otherwise fully functional laptop go to waste.
Googling yielded nothing, and messaging Compal themselves hasn't
resulted in a reply so far. part number is dc020011v10.

hmmm you probably shorted something out. See if the cable is burned if it is hopefully its just a cable. But if there something burn on the motherboard then u have the replace whats shorted on it. I have some LVDS cables laying around take a picture of it and ill see if it matches.

I cant see any physical evidence of anything shorted out, but since the connector is straight on the motherboard, I assume nothing shorted out there.
Since i still get a backlight and white picture I don't know if anything really did short.
And even if somethign did short out, it wouldnt be replaceable then.

Only easy testable thing is the LVDS cable. A mobo replacement at this point is useless and expensive, the cable should be a cheap test to see if thats at fault or not, since I can't seem to locate any on the net, I hope u have one that works too.
Here is .zip of several pictures of the connector on the mobo as well as the cable connectors and cable itself.
