A discussion started about this is another thread so I thought I would start an actual thread that was dedicated to this. What I mean by maintenance is what people use to clean their system. Like all the fingerprints, and what people use to clean their display. I'm sure other people would like to know this as well, seeing as it is a fingerprint magnet. What also might be helpful to some is the procedure that is used to clean it as well.

I don't know if this is the right thing to do, but I usually use Windex on some paper towels and wipe down the laptop, including the display.

meguires yellow wax and eagle one wax as you dry imo are the best for any glossy surface, i even use the yellow wax on the dining room table its AWESOME stuff. for the screen for sure just a touch of water on a microfiber cloth nothing more. i dont even like the screen cleaners. i DO NOT RECC windex for the screen or the plastics as it usually has ammonia in it.

for the glossy surface, if you have a few hairline scratches go to a automotive paint store or possibly wal mart and buy a couple things. if the scratch is not deep at all and very fine use whats called either glaze or is know as swirl remover i prefer 3m brand. use this with a microfiber cloth and watch them dissapear.

now for deeper ones use a microfiber cloth again but this time get 3m fine cut polishing compound. this will remove a bit of material from the gloss and make a slight haze. dont rub to hard or go to deep.

now you may have a slightly hazy spot there. now go back and use the swirl remover to remove the haze the compound created. this will bring back the gloss.

now for even deeper ones. you will need wet sand paper either 1500 or 2000 grit and if you can find it 3000 is awesome for finishing. soak the paper in some soapy water for about 10 min or so (i recc this some people dont soak it so long or longer) now very lightly start with the 1500 and run it over the spot a few times. wipe it dry. check the scratch. if needed go over it a few more times. but again do not go to deep you dont want to go through to the glossy finish but with 1500 that would take some doing. now if the scratch is gone use the 2000 or better 3000 to remove the marks from the 1500. once done use the polishing compound as above then follow with the swirl remover to a new glossy shine...

hope this helps any questions lmk.

Great idea for a thread Luthi3n, I get my system today... well my brother gets it he gives it to me by X-mas.. but I want to know what to use to clean it.. maybe of the top 5 products used we can get a poll going to see which one is clearly the winner.

Um, you don't need any liquid based cleaner. All you need is a good chamois cloth. It gets rid of all the fingerprints easily and keeps it looking really good.

How about them little fine swirls that appear as. Z above mentioned. You're bound to get some at some point in time.

Good input so far. Seems so far everything has been about cleaning the fingerprints and stuff. What about any suggestions about cleaning the screen?

I think Z mentioned spit n shine, J/K damp cloth he said. and no Windex. Which I think might be nice considering Windex has who knows how many chems on it. I would say clean it just how you clean glasses warm water

Edit I wrote it at 12:30 and left it open in a tab.

If you guys haven't discovered Cyberguys yet, it's a great place to shop for computer dodads:

    http://www.cyberguys.com/templates/SearchAll.asp?search=screen+cleaner&sort=desc

It's recommended to use an alcohol and ammonia-free product, and they list several.

Well....wipe, wipe, wipe....I use a microfiber cloth for day to day finger...wipe, wipe, wipe....print cleaning....I mean hour to hour...wipe, wipe, wipe...ok, minute to minute....

If I get something on the screen....like sometimes I might laugh really hard at something zfactor writes and spit on my screen....wipe, wipe, wipe...I will use a little bit of a water and vinegar solution on a microfiber cloth.

In an extreme emergency, I have used those little moist towlet eye glass cleaners you can get by the box load from costco....I keep a few dozen in my tool kit for cleaning CRT screens....Wipe, wipe, wipe....
