Well after a marathon weekend research session, much of it spent in these forums, I ordered a new HEL80 system last night from powernotebooks.com as follows:

    PowerPro L 8:15 SUPRA (Compal HEL80)
    • 15.4" WSXGA+ (1680 x 1050) "Matte" LCD w/PCI-e nVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 w/256MB
    • IntelR CoreT2 Duo T7200 2.0GHz Processor w/4M L2 On-die cache - 667MHz FSB
    • Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound
    • 2,048MB (2 SODIMMS) * CORSAIR * DDR2/667 Dual Channel Memory
    • 100GB SATA/150 Seagate Hard Drive at 7,200 RPM
    • Combo Dual Layer SuperMulti DVDRW Drive w/Softwares
    • Built-in IntelR PRO/Wireless 3945 802.11a/b/g
    • Smart Li-ion Battery (9-Cell)
    • Windows XP Professional w/32-bit Vista Business upgrade coupon
    • Full Range Auto Switching AC Adapter
    • Built-in Bluetooth Wireless
    • Auto/Air 12V Adapter
    • PowerPro 3-year Warranty - Next Business Day Shipping - Lifetime 24/7
    Regular Price Total: $ 1,919.00

After doing exhaustive reading I found the features and price combine with the reputation of powernotebooks.com sealed the deal for me. I'll let you know how it goes and thank you for all of the information found here.

Any tips or suggestions for my new system would be great. I plan on flashing the bios to the latest if it doesn't come that way but I haven't spent time looking at overclocking or any other tweaks.

    Peace,

    Locker

Superjrj your message is well timed. I ordered my machine from powernotebooks.com and have had an extremely bad experience and will have to order it from one of the other vendors and milestonepc is in the running.

I'll keep things updated.... maybe one day I'll end up touching my new laptop..

    Peace,

    Locker

Welcome to the forums, Locker420. May I ask what made your experience with Powernotebooks so bad?

I would highly recommend you call them (should you decide to give them another chance) to place your order and ask for ongoing specials. It's worth it.

My experience (and many of those here in the forums as well) has been nothing but excellent with Donald and the gang.

Nevertheless, there are some great resellers that frequent these forums. Good luck.

chrisyano, we canceled his order and suggested he find another reseller to serve him.

The details are not necessary or helpful to the forum.

I find it less than comfortable to go into details on this particular forum where this vendor seems to hold so much influence. If anyone needs specific information feel free to PM me. Also my experience will be clearly visible on resellerratings.com once my review has been approved.

In the meantime I ordered a HEL80 from rjtech.com and ate the sales tax hit because their website had been so helpful in my shopping. I was smart enough to call first and felt comfortable with the vendor and made the order.

    We'll see how it goes.

    Peace,

    Locker

Our customer service reputation stands on its own, and our 10's of thousands of customers attest to that. There is no reason for anyone to stir this up.

Any business has the right to refuse service to anyone. This is not about shipping a bad product or not standing behind it once it was shipped. We simply found his behavior unacceptable and refused him service before we shipping him anything, and suggested that he find another vendor. His credit card was charged and refunded the same day (Monday the 12th) the order was originally processed.

I do not believe it will benefit anyone going into any further details...least of all Locker420. So I think it would be better to just let it stay in the "enough said" category, without embarrassing anyone any further.

I agree with both of you. No further good can come of this thread. Everything that needed to be said at this point has been said by those who had something to say.

The only direction left for this thread is downward.
