I really need help updating my Bios! I've never done it before, but the date for my current BIOS says 2008 and there is a newer version on the Compal site. I downloaded the zip, extracted it, and when I click on it I get this error, "Cannot flash if Memory Managers (e.g. EMM386) is present" I don't know what to do. I hope someone can help me with this. Here are my specs:

    OS: Windows XP
CPU: Intel Core Duo T9550 2.66 GHz
    RAM: 3066MB RAM
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT 512.0 MB
    MANUFACTURER/MODEL: Sager NP2096 (Compal)

    Thank you

Why do you want to update your BIOS. Unless you are not having any problems, I would not upgrade.

Are you facing problems with you laptop? If so, tell me/us first.

If you fell lucky, get the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool (use google), get Windows Boot Files (Win98 copy or browse web) and make a bootable USB drive out of it.

Copy the contents of the zip file onto the USB drive and start the process. Pray!

    Cheers

I'm having heating issues. My laptop gets way too hot, especially the fingerprint device. You can't even touch it. It doesn't take long either.

A BIOS update may improve this, but I'd rather would try this first:

    log CPU temp
    log GPU temp

Both idle and under (gaming?) load.

Get dust out of the grill of the fan - you might have to open the laptop to do this.

If the issue was not present before, than I guess it's either a defect or overheating due to lack of air flow.

I'd check that first. Creating a bootable USB stick with the flashing should work as stated above.

    Good luck

I have a JHL90 as well and just getting the dust out of the outtake will help a lot !
